Hii all , I went to KL for the first time for 3 days but wasnt a very good trip. Went to KLCC for shopping but things were too expensive or not nice. Does anyone know hows the shopping in Chinatown or where is the best place to do some shopping , like house decorations, or buy those things that you cant find in Singapore ?

Also, I will need to go to Port Klang on a business meeting, does anyone know which hotel location should I take to make travelling easier for myself ?

Thanks

KL is very similiar to Singapore. Branded stuff could be more expensive than here. You may want to go 1 Utama and the Curve for shopping. At least different from the usual KLCC, Pavilion, Mid Valley, etc.

I would think staying in PJ should be fine for your business trip.

KLCC does not have much to shop unless they do have Malaysia MegaSale. For real bargains is to go Bukit Bintang like Sungei Wang Plaza, Low Yat Plaza & the other place is their Chinatown.

Their Chinatown mostly sells fake
branded goods. ie. bags, shoes,
watches, sunglasses, clothes, (etc).
The place is also called Petaling Street.

Yes, the places titank mentioned can
get bargains. Even some air-con shops
still can bargain.

Their KLCC is like our Takashimaya or
ION. :P

Yes this Petaling Street do have many fake products like LV, Gucci etc. Can get "A Grade", "B Grade" or "C Grade" depends on your budget.
Ha.ha. good for me to learn some fake product knowledge.

In the old days in Singapore, you can find such items. Now they are gone.

Hi,

Will be going in Dec with hubby and 2 kids aged 3 and 7. Wondering which is the best hotel to stay in KL - Bukit Bintang area ? Budget less than SGD 100 per night. Not necessary 5* hotel but a decently nice and clean place since we are out most of the day.

Someone recommended 'Royal Bintang Hotel'. Read their reviews, seems like 50% good 50% bad. Any comment on the hotel also ?

Thanks

My friend stayed in hotel Capitol many years back and liked it. you can try this website to shortlist possibilities.

http://www.asiatravel.com/malaysia.html

Also can go to www.tripadvisor.com for the lowdowns on hotels you've shortlisted - I like to expect the worst so I'm not negatively surprised when I'm there.

If you're up for tze char, please don't miss Soo Kee (closed mondays) at 14 medan imbi. Tel 03 2148 1324. Their 'sang har mee' (fried noodle with prawns) are to die for, other dishes also very good. It's very near to Berjaya hotel.

Melia KL is a good choice too, directly opposite Berjaya Time Sqare.

If u are driving up, I have frens who went Capitol before and they say the hotel doesn't have parking in the same building.. quite ma fan and not so safe.. I prefer Dorsett Regency, right behind Ritz carlton. Clean and underground parking.. usually i pay around $99 SGD. can try asiatravel.com or their own websites..

I have frens who like Royale bintang but the last time i was there, I had lots of issues, so I never go back anymore. But that was years ago ya.. u may wanna check the reviews on tripadvisor. If the complaints are very consistent, and very important to you, then I suggest you look around further. :)

i went to KL recently with whole family - ourselves, my mum and my 3 kids. we stayed in Gardens - this is a new hotel near mid valley. its a 2 bedroom apartment and its about RM600 and comes with buffet breakfast for all of us. not sure if they have smaller apt and hence cheaper. but its a very nice place. only fall back is there's no mrt... 8)
