What is Mind Stimulation Activities (MSA)?
MSA is a form of activity that engages our patient to be mentally active. It follows the similar basic concept of Play Therapy. This programme allows our volunteers to ease into the befriending session with the kidney patients during their dialysis.
The Objective of MSA
MSA allows the introduction of fun and stimulating mental activities to aid our elderly patients maintain an active mind. It also allows meaningful volunteering sessions for our volunteers.
Why MSA?
Patients spend about four hours each dialysis session for three times a week at the Dialysis Centre.
Most wheelchair-bounded patients only leave their house for dialysis with nothing to do at home. Their cognitive functions may decline without any activity for them to exercise their minds.
MSA help volunteers to ease into the befriending session, allowing them to have meaning volunteering session at the Dialysis Centre.
How Does it Benefit the Volunteers
This programme is a good exposure for volunteers who are considering to work in a clinical settings in the future. Volunteers would be able to interact with patients at the clinical settings. Volunteers would also be equipped with many relevant skills that would benefit them outside of volunteering work.
