Hi there, You may try go to Grand Indonesia Mall for the indoor entertainment for young children. The mall is very centralise located at Sudirman Street, quite the biggest and quite high end mall now.
It has kind of miniature theme park for young child on 2 different level. It has merry go round, mini ferries wheel, mini train etc. For one ride, may cost you about 1.5 - 2 SGD.

Another alternative, is Mall of Indonesia at Kelapa Gading area. Bigger but I think this is best for age 4 above....SInce my little one is also 2 years old, she is quite happy in Grand Indo.

Jakarta Seaworld also a good option, in my opinion much better than singapore aquarium in sentosa....:)

You may pm me for more details...:)

Hi, I'll try to brief you about Jakarta, For your children quite a few place to go:
- Ancol : You could find water park similar to wild wild wet at down town east, sea world, dunia fantasi theme park(try to copy disneyland, but can't be compared) You could eat at Bandar Jakarta, a good buy for seafood for dinner
- WaterBOM at Pantai Indah Kapuk : another water park :D
- Taman Mini Indonesia : Miniature Park of Indonesia
- Mals in Jakarta quite a few, Plaza Senayan, Plaza Indonesia, Senayan City, Grand Indonesia, Mal Kelapa Gading, Mal of Indonesia (indoor mini theme park) BUT I don't think you want to go to shop at these mals... :D
You might want to go to Mal Mangga Dua or ITC Mangga Dua to shop, it's a ladies world. You could find cheap clothing, faked branded leather goods but can't really tell the difference with the real one :) Do take care when you visit this area, it's very crowded and please your kids at home, you could find DVD and games cd at this place. At certain store, try to bargain the impossible way :D
Outside Jakarta, You could go to Taman Safari, Wild Life Park, don't forget to buy some carrots before you go in to the park, so your kids could feed the animal there, You'll find a lot of local food restaurant along the way. Another place is called The Jungle, it's another water park, but you could go for more as they also provide ATV park, and experience the country side life.

If you are coming between Dec 14th to 23rd, I'll be in town. DOn't hesitate to call me +62816915768. I might not be able to show you around but I'll be glad to give you more information that you might need.

Regards

insider wrote:why are you going to Jakarta? basically that place nothing much for kids with safety the key concern.

I visited that place a few times for business and basically have this feeling of 'unsafe' (even a 100 metres walk from a building to another in the afternoon also not recommended by my partners there)............................
This statement might be true but could be wrong :D
That's depends of where and when you are going. If you are going for a stroll along city area after 10 PM with all the jewellery and branded goods attached, then you are looking for trouble :D

Certain place, at the most is pickpockets, so just beware and don't bring or wear things that 'inviting'

But if you are walking between buildings, it should be OK

BUT it's true, you could not compare the safety in Jakarta to Singapore. If not I would not reside my family to Singapore :D

Hi Peterch & ALL

Can help recommend which decent 4* hotels to stay around good shopping location. Not those high-end boutique kinda of shopping, more like casual decent wear or sports wear at reasonable price for both adults and children.

Btw, is Kunningan a gd area to stay for shopping? Eg. Le Meridien, etc.

Also, have anyone been to a place call "Thousand Island"? Isn't true that they have clear water and is a good snorklling place?

Lastly, would appreciate if you can also input any recommendation & information on Bandung hotels & shopping.

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi,
Factory outlet at Bundung - Rumah Mode is great. You need one day to shop. Easy to get food there as well. But if you are buying shoes, do try again if you are given a new pair. The new pair may not fit.

We only had an hour after all the traffic jam and have been considering to do a Part 2 of our Jakarta trip. If you are traveling to Jakarta with kids, would recommend:
1) Kidszania (Jkt)- fun and highly educational on money concept for kids. Kids got to "work" to play.
2) Resort sampireun (Garut)- a sampan for each cottage and breakfast and tea served at yr cottage via sampan.

Hi

This is our 1st time to Jakarta, hence really appreciate input on the areas.

Seems like many malls are called ITC in jakarta, anyone knows if the two malls near Manhattan Hotel, the ITC mall and Mal Ambasador has the same type of shopping as Le grandur Manngua Dua area where four malls are link together??

Am really confuse with the type of shoppings there are. Was told the Senayan area is more upmarket?

Am looking at places like MBK in Bangkok or like Far East Plaza Or Bugis area type...can anyone recommend where to stay please?

MTIA :)
