I shopped for their local skin care & masks in Watsons & Momo.
Their underground shop at train station have quite cheap shoes & bag pack too.

I used to buy books, mag and toys but now I don't.

I heard that people like to buy 鸭舌 (I don't know the shops), for 凤梨酥 I think we have that in spore now.

For me if I go in dec, I will see if I can buy 麻辣烫包 or any of the nice 火锅汤包to bring home.

Hubby bought a box chinese pastry from 旧振南 at the Taichung train station.

The bean paste pastry is smooth and does not have the jialek feeling of oily-ness. Not too sweet. The bean paste pastry comes in a few variety.

The brand has pineapple tart too, also not as sweet as the other Taiwan brands.

Nothing much to buy leh, mostly for or stuff we bought.
1. 梅菜 from nanzhuang. Hakka favourite
2. Bean paste fermented bean curd
3. Brown sugar ginger tea (黑糖姜母茶)
4. 剥皮辣椒 well, I think that's what it's called. It is preserved green chilli with skin removed. It is salty and great for eating with plain congee or for frying with pork.
5. Pineapple tart. I like the one from Sunnyhil
6. Taiyangbing. I like the one from 阿明师老店太阳堂 in Taichung

I guess the only objective is to EAT!

Image

For southern TW, we aimed for:
1. 肉燥饭 (more fatty than 鲁肉饭)
2. 虾卷 (similar to our Hei Zhor)
3. 贡丸
4. 蚝仔煎 (tastes horrible)
5. 臭豆腐
6. 鸭血
7. 碗粿
8. 豆花
9. 泡泡冰
10. 牛肉面/汤
11。猪脚
12. 火鸡肉燥饭 (specialty in Chiayi)

For northern TW, the usual Dongbei floury stuffs:
1. 小笼包
2. 担仔面
3. 棺材板
4. 炸鸡排
5. 地瓜球
6. 蚝面线
7. 麻辣锅
8. 铁蛋
9. 三杯鸡

There're some differences in terms of Bubble Tea flavours in the South (翰林、烨达、天仁). Some Southern brands are not found in the North (贡茶、Chatime...think there's 天仁 too), i noticed. Tainan is famous for sugarcane and winter melon, so there're many bubble tea shops with sugarcane and winter melon concoctions.

As for bread, southern TW has its own famous bakeries like Master Fang. Love their signature buns!

Lastly don't forget TW fruit produce:

I bought a lot of TW sauces and porridge sides (腐乳、麻辣竹笋、肉松、菜心、面筋)and chili sauces during my last trip, but didn't get them this time. I think we could find them in CS or NTUC sometimes when they have TW Food Fairs.
