May be easier to ask where in the end is not packed with tourists from mainland China.

don't known about Taipei, but there were few mainland China tourists in rest of Taiwan, much much much less than what we encountered when we were there 2 years ago.

That’s due to the green camp in power from 2016. Expect that to change when the blue camp wins Taiwan presidential election in 2020.

Didn’t feel stifled by mainlanders when I went to hong kong past 2 years. But then I’d been deliberately avoiding tourist fun spots like disneyland, ocean park. Went round the local estates instead. Felt like i saw more mainlanders as service staff (as you would in Sg) than tourists,

Macau on the other hand..... swamped up to the gills with mainlanders at Senado Square.

Definitely, continually. Tour groups from inner cities will be at the theme parks, Victoria Harbour and the Peak. There are also small group or individual repeat tourists in NT and shopping districts in TST and CWB, but you won't notice them if they don't speak. Some of them are on business day trips.

There aren't many mainlanders in Taiwan since Tsai took office. Conversely, there were more mainland tour groups visiting Taipei during Ma's years.

Those PRC tourists have flocked to Japan and South Korea. Sino-Jap relations are remarkably warm in recent years, so more visas are issued to those who fulfil the financial criteria.

Hong Kong is one of the safest places of China and people find foreigners quite interesting. Many people in Hong Kong can speak English and having some knowledge of Mandarin will certainly help.
Some of these places are certainly worth going to:
Victoria Peak
Ocean Park
Disneyland
Victoria Harbour
Ngong Ping 360 - will bring you to the giant Buddha!

The shopping there is great. Also Hong Kong is very modern. The food there is amazing. I really enjoyed my time in Hong Kong.

HK is a very good place to visit. It is where the east meets west. HK is very famous for its tall buildings. Don't worry if you can't speak Cantonese, because English is widely spoken there. HK is a very modern city, and also safe. It has become a famous tourist destination so of course it's tourist friendly.
