Hi,

I'd love to hear your opinion on which of these two disneylands would be a better place to visit with a 5yr old. A lot of people told me that Tokyo Disneyland is much much nicer and bigger than HK, but considering other factors like price, ease of transport, other attractions, is it still better to save up and go to Tokyo than HK?

I've been to both. Honestly all disneylands are the same to me Toyko's is of course bigger in size. I have friends whom declared as well that you've never been to Disneyland till you go to Tokyo's - so I guess it's kind of GO FOR THE REAL THING sentiment as well. PLUS point for HK for me is AT LEAST I will go watch their shows 'cos I can understand (Cantonese)

In fact, in HK, I prefer Ocean Park much more than Disneyland.

For me, definitely tokyo. Never been to the hk one, not sure if the crowd is now more civilised.. I remembered reading some uncivilised behaviour when HK Disney was opened. But if the crowd converging there is still the same, I'm not too hopeful the behaviour has improved. Anyone who's been there can comment? Plus HK is too polluted and crowded for my liking.

You dont really have to save up to go to tokyo. We went to beijing then transit a few days in tokyo. That way, tickets are cheaper than if you fly to tokyo directly. Plus it's easy to move around with their efficient subway network...and we stayed in those roykans with tatamis..unique experience..and doesnt burn a big whole in the pocket either.

What language do they use for all the rides in Tokyo Disneyland and HK Disneyland?

I went to Tokyo Disneyland eons ago and they spoke in Japanese all around. Some rides like pirates of caribbean were narrated and I remember getting so blur.

If they speak Mandarin in HK Disneyland, my daughter could probably brush up on her chinese while she's there :D:D

Tokyo, I went there before.

Although I went HK before, but never go to HK disneyland before. So far all in a short span, there are so many bad publicity about it.

I beg you have not heard anything Tokyo disneyland yet, right?

Disneyland Paris and LA not bad too.

Only the biggest one in Florida I have not gone there before. But I guess this is the one that anyone who fancy disneyland must not missed.

Is that true mathsparks? wow! I never heard of that before. What airline did you take?

I think it was united airlines...but 6 years ago, hor.

If you just fly directly to Tokyo, it'll cost you more. But fly to beijing, then pay a little for deviation(nt quite sure whats the term they used) to tokyo, its way cheaper. Then we left our big luggage at the airport (winter jackets and souvenirs from beijing), and went roaming the city via the subway..with 2 kids, 6 and 11. No sweat!

I've been to HK Disneyland (twice) and LA Disneyland.

For 5years ago, HK Disneyland should still be fun and exciting. First time up close and personal with Mickey,Pooh, Buzzlightyear and all that stuff. Considering travel time and cost, HK is definitely cheaper but if you have the budget, go to the further and bigger ones !

As for language, in HK Disneyland ,only 1 or 2 shows are in Cantonese eg Golden Mickey show but there are English subtitles on the side. My boy doesn't understand Cantonese but he enjoyed the shows.

As for uncivilised behaviour, indeed we encountered some during XXX country's public/school holidays season but in Nov/Dec there was no such problem at all.

I have been to both and more than once for each of them and still loving them.

In terms of rides, HK has improved alot since its launch. I find that once they put in "It's a Small World", it has been considered complete for any age group. You must really savour this boat ride slowly...it takes you into another world. I have been on this countless times but it never fails to intrigue me in each ride, even though it becomes predictable.

To avoid unruly crowd, summer is a better time to go for HK, though it is hot and umbrellas preferred. Gave me an excuse to buy a nice Mini Mouse umbrella. We also went in winter before(my last trip) and it was more crowded. Of course by then my dh eyes went He so wanted to entice me to think Universal Studio now

Tokyo Disneyland, though bigger and more attractions has 2 other issues, crowded, so the waiting time for each ride is longer. Secondly, many of the items are in Japanese and they do not provide dual language in many instances. Eg..Haunted Mansion is in Japanese, you hardly feel any fear because the narration plays a strong part to instill the fear... I had a totally different experience when I went to US Disneyland. In Hong Kong, they have English, Mandarin and Cantonese for most of their items. You must go for the Stitch's programme in Cantonese, it was hilarious.

For 5YO, HK current rides suffice and if height reaches 1.0m, he/she can even try the Space Mountain excitement and you better do it now with your kids when you can. Once you hit a certain age, this would prove to be too exciting for you.

To be candid, your Disneyland trip with your kids will NEVER stop at HK. You will definitely go to Tokyo again...because there is also a DisneySea there and then later to L.A Disneyland and finally Florida's DisneyWorld. So the Disneyland trips are throughout your lifetime.

Times like this, I love being a parent more than ever....
