Can we take leave during school term for vacation

Hi friends,
Are we supposed to plan for any overseas trip strictly within the school holidays? I am planning for US trip during June holidays. Is it ok, if we extend it to July first week. My daughter is P2, will the schools usally agree for this? Any prior experience would be appreciated. Also heard that last week in May no classes are held, is it ok to take leave then?

I don't know, but I'm taking mine out of school for a week to go back to the US. Is such frown upon?

Not encouraged, but do check with the school's policy on absences. I had one parent who wanted to take the child overseas during the exam period.

I don't think schools can actually forbid it if the parent asks. The parent should inform the school formally and provide a reason, and some schools will probably discourage it if lessons are missed. But parents can undertake to help make up for the missed lessons if necessary.

Actually may last week the kids dont have any lessons correct, so if we miss also then no need to make up much. Is it true?

You still need to keep sch inform for last week of May. Usually last week is nothing much for my kids sch. But I do know of some branded schs are teaching for next semester . Like wise for yr end, some schs start to teach following yr subjects eg upp pri class

It depends on the school whether they will teach during that week. But one week of work is really very little in terms of catching up. However, as long as it's officially term time, you need to keep the school informed if you intend to keep your child away from school.

We did it two times... first time when my daughter in P1 -- 4 days before school holiday started (end May) and 2nd time when daughter in P4 -- one week before school holiday started in Nov (last year).
I informed teachers in advanced with letter and no question asked. Collect the report book only after we returned from trip.

I had a fren who used to do this when the kids were in P1 to P4 .
My ds classmate extended 1 week holiday from sch in March term 2
he told me teacher gave the the child hw to do to catch up
so diff sch diff practices ( teachers too) some kiasu, some more relax.
after all it is parents' rights and choices . If you have good tutors to do catch up,
then maybe more relax.
