Hi, a relative of mine is looking for a good female O&G doctor who also treats gynaecological problems like menopause. She prefers a female doc with caring attitude, patient and understanding. Anyone can recommend cos I don't know any. TIA!

My OB-Gyn Dr. Tanny Chan, is very experienced and has great bedside manners. She is patient, and will take all my stupid questions. But she is also authoritative. When I had a big scare in my last pregnancy, she was really sensitive to my feelings and I really felt that she cared. Judging from the age range of the patients I see at her clinic, I think she covers a wide area of work, and not just obstetrics. Her clinic is at Gleneagles.

Haha, sorry, she's one tough nut where gynae is concerned. Male gynaes do not exist in her vocab!

I also have similar preferences as her.
but i can consider male gynae, just that i prefer females. any recommendations?

Just a word of caution about consulting medical specialists.

I find that too many people exercise too much trust in the doctors they visit. Maybe it is an Asian thing. Westerners tend to question and find out more about their doctor's skills, reputation and specialties.

If you or your relatives feels that the doctor is too pro-surgery, do find another doctor for a second opinion. Or a third opinion if necessary. The cost of the additional opinions will be less than an unnecessary operation, not to mention the physical and mental trauma associated with surgery and hospitalisation.

Please do not judge doctors solely by their bedside manners. Many of them have hone their bedside manners to perfection over many years of medical practice. Check them up. Ask around about them. Search the internet for their focus areas. Do they focus on their niche areas or do they claim to do everything from delivering babies to cancer treatment to selling skincare products? No specialist can specialise in so many areas well. So don't let them talk you into doing things you are not comfortable with.

Good luck and stay healthy!

Can you please recommend a good gynae. One of my friend is trying to get pregnant for many years but she is unable. She would like to have an understanding and caring gynae who is able to answer her questions and check her to see whehter any chance of getting pregnant.
