Hi, anyone can advise how to improve the strength?
DD always complaints weak when ever need to swim 30 laps to prepare for the gold stars test. Seems that she lacks of power to kick effectively and therefore still cannot meet the timing. . I’m not sure whether she is not eating enough or is there any food/fruit/supplement can help to build a better strength? Her height is 148 cm and weight 36kgs.

Thank you

Your DD is taking Gold Star, so I am assuming she is abt 10-13 years old? She should cont to take milk and supplement. Of cos eating heathly and a higher carbo meal hours before the swim will help.

My son is 10yr this month and he passed his gold star in Jun this yr. The way he improved his strength is taking ginseng capsule daily after he passed his gold in Jan this year. I know it will cost a bit, but I swear that taking american ginseng definitely help.

For me, I run a TCM store, so cannot be I don't give my kids to eat, right? You can approach any TCM store and say that you want to buy american ginseng, get them to grind into powder and put into capsule for you. Then get your dd to take 2 capsules daily before breakfast. It will cost about $80 - $100 or more for about 90 capsule.

The other health supplement that you can take is NaturCare Multiplus, a multivitamin with ginseng, from Tupperware Brand. It contains 25 essential nutrients and ginseng to boost energy. Same, get dd to take 1 softgel daily before breakfast. It cost $33 for 30 softgel.

These are the 2 health supplement that I can think of that can boost engery. I grew up in a TCM store and I strongly believe in taking ginseng to boost energy. In fact, when I was young, everytime before exam, my mum will double-boil ginseng for us. But nowadays, with our stressful and hectic life, how to double-boil daily for our kids.

Your dd's build is about the same as my son, but during the week before my son's test, my hubby brought him to the pool daily to swim. Bet your dd test venue should be queenstown swimming complex, right? The only test venue left.

Yes. The coach said the test will be on Queenstown swimming complex. She is 11 years old. Will check on this American ginseng to help to improve the strength.

To be able to swim laps, fitness is important. Other than swimming, your dd can improve her fitness through other sports such as running/ skip rope.

For a list of suggested food to eat prior to swimming, have a look at this. http://www.wikihow.com/Prepare-for-a-Swim-Meet

When dd has a swim meet at 1pm, I would let her eat a modrate serving of pasta at 11am. If not, light snacks such as apples, biscuits or museli bars. She doesn't like bananas although it is one of the best foods to have.

All the best!

Thank you sandunes for the recommendation and suggestion.

DD usually takes her lunch at 1 to 1.30pm and the swimming is at 4.30pm. Noted your dd meal time is about 2 hours before the swimming, as such I would let dd eat something else on 3pm before swimming and see any different.

donkey years ago, when we train the team for certain sports that need lots of "explosive" power and strength, they always said eat more eggs and meat, build more muscles, and train the aerobic through running...may be we were outdated liao
