HI Kelly

I was introduced to Enzyme Therapy last year and currently my dd1 is on it. I find it useful as the enzymes helped to break down the foods that the children eat to make it easily absorbed into the body.

If you want to know more about Enzyme Therapy, I recommend the books written by Karen DeFelice. She wrote:

1. Enzymes: Go with your gut (more practical guidelines for digestive enzymes)

2. Enzymes for Autism and other Neurological Conditions

I bought the books at Kinokuniya.

Is Enzymes Therapy expensive? I think it depends on what and how much supplements one buys. Then again, nothing is cheap. But I see it as another form of intervention and if it helps my children, then I will do what I can within my means to help my children get better and healthier.

For info, dd1 was diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder. Ever since dd1 is on enzymes, I noticed that she is more in control of her emotions. It could be that she is older now and so a little more matured, but I also believe the enzymes supplements helped in balancing her neurological conditions as well.

From the products that you mentioned, I'm not sure that Efalax Omega is an "enzyme" but it's omega related products. As for memory recall food supplements, you need to check out the product information and read the labels.

It took me a about a year - reading the books by Karen Felice and researching on the Internet to know more.

For my dd's enzymes, I get them from a shop in Telok Blangah. The lady owner of the shop is very helpful and knowledgeable. She will be in the best position to advise you. For info, I am not related to her nor do I gain from recommending her, but my family, esp my dd's condition has improved so much because of her sharing.

Let me know if you need her contact.

Further to the above, I want to add that as your child's age is rather young, you may not want to prescribe the full dosage as recommended by the product label. May need to give half the dosage. However, as my dd is older (she is 13yo), I give her enzymes and other supplements according to product instructions.

To add, do be mindful about giving your child over the counter products and supplements (from the usual pharmacy outlets). Personally, for normal or neuro-typical kids, I think the over the counter products are not so much of a concern. But for kids with special needs, better to give supplements from companies who manufacture supplements that cater specifically for their needs. This is just my personal opinion.

Just to share, these are the brands that we are currently taking: Kirkman Lab, Houston Enzymes and Enzymedica. You can google search the companies to have a better idea of what they do.

For my dd, I rotate the different brands of enzymes. This is to prevent the body getting used to one type of brand.

Again, you can speak to the lady owner of Back to Basics Alternative Diet for more info. Whilst the shop is open from Tuesday - Saturday, I believe she only comes in to the shop on Saturdays. Best to call in advance to make an appointment with her.

Hope the above helps.
