Is there a need to buy health insurance now? Since the government is making it compulsory to buy insurance from them.
If you do not mind basic public hospital (B2 and C wards), you could may do with basic health insurance (aka MediShield Life). There are also strict claim limits for MediShield Life. To get treatment in better class wards and private hospitals, you will have to opt for additional health insurance (aka Integrated Shield Plan).

Therefore, the answer depends on your needs and affordability / ability to purchase.

I would like to buy critical illness insurance for my 22 yr old daughter who has existing illness which is not critical. I was advised to buy 15 or 20 yr policy with rider for critical illness. There are AIA guaranteed protected plus, Income Vivo_Assure, Manulife Lifeready which I am considering. Need some advice. Thanks

With pre-existing conditions, whether criticalbor not, Insurance companies will calculate their risks. Usually they will exclude that illness, so u can’t claim anything against it. My MIL hv cholesterol & high blood pressure, so Insurance companies will not incl those related to heart diseases incl heart attacks/bypass op claims. What u might donis if u can get doctors’ medical note/letter to indicate full recovery than might present that & hv a chance to include.

So far Medishield plan, only AXA and Great Eastern provides better coverage at cheaper prices. You may want to explore from there.

No leh. I find NTUC Income the best for its “as charged” claims which means almost everything. In fact, for those middle income who can’t qualify for means testing esp kidney dialysis, they’ve tie up with a famous American medical provider for patients to do dialysis & all dialysis related expenses are “as claimed”. We didn’t need to pay out of pocket for FIL. However, DH & I bought AIA & paid additional for “gold” coverage, but recently discovered they set a per year limit. This means we paid higher premiums to AIA but not able to claim in full, whereas NTUC Income premium is cheaper but we get to claim “as charged”. We choose the Basic Plan for NTUC IncomeShield, which is not the highest premium.

In addition, we use to purchase AIA Travel insurance but altho both claim experiences are good, NTUC Travel Insurance has been cheaper.
Our claim experiences has been good for both health & travel insurances with NTUC Income.

We bought Personal Accident Insurance cover for our kids fr NTUC Income.
