Many are against such intervention. However from the way we see it, we are just replacing what is missing in his body. Just like diabetic children. Perhaps for us, it's easier because we found out the cause for his low growth. There are many who can't find any cause and it's those that will find difficulty accepting intervention.

For a gal, it's (father's height-13+mother's height)/2. For a boy, it's (mother's height+13+father's height)/2.
This is the formula given by my boy's endocrinologist. Factors such as diet and nutrition etc will affect the final height.
Mashy I thought the formula got +/- 7.5cm? :?

My ds started Growth hormone therapy end dec last yr. Grown about 7cm since then. He is coming 6 yrs old. Yes, agree it is very ex. What device are u using? I'm using cool click 2 now. Pretty easy to use. If the GH cannot get in, it's wasted money. U should check with the supplier or the nurse and how to use it. One drop is $10 leh. U need at least a yr to gauge the results. Coz they grow in spurts.
Wow 7cm growth is a lot for less than a year for a 6yr old! :yikes:  I agree that mashy is a very hardworking and dedicated mummy.

Sheling- hope you see this message quickly cos from what mashy is saying if the GH is not administered properly very wasted effort and probably explains why your DD never grow after gaining 2cm after initial 2 months. You should go get the correct technique or maybe go down with your child and let the clinic watch you do and correct your method. Maybe if you get it right during this critical period she may grow much taller than the target. All the best towards a tall child!

Kudos to you, great mummy! I am sure when your son grows to 172cm he will look back and thank you  I guess the general thinking is still conservative. I thought about it and if I were in your shoes, I would probably go for this hormone therapy too for my kid if he's got this same growth condition.

Is it? I dunno leh. When I visited the Endo, this was the formula given. Didn't say about the +-7.5cm. He did say that there's variations depending on the nutrition. So it's not a fixed thing but a potential height.

I'm just an ordinary mum, doing things all mums will do. :)

My kids are milk lover when they are young and even now. My P4 and P3 are around 1.5m while my K2 is around 1.2+m. The P3 and K2 were premature babies which people cannot believe due to their size.

I am 1.62m while my hubby is around 1.75m so we are average height folks. I foresee that my girls will be taller than me and they will "look down" on me soon....

Has anyone mentioned sleep? I believe that is also an important factor - because sleep is the time when the body is repairing and constructing new cells. Of course, to do this, the correct ingredients are needed, such as protein. And that is abundant in milk.

My boy has sufficient sleep and used to drink a lot of milk. He is 8 years old now and 1.55m tall.

Of course, I must qualify that having the above two (sleep and milk intake) does not guarantee the child will become very tall.

Happened to come across this interesting thread...where can I find the peanut plant to make soup? And is it proven to make the child grow taller?

My DD is one of the smallest among her peers in preschool. She is a fussy and slow eater. Dunno if that is the reason for her small size...but after reading the concerns of mummies here, realise I am not alone in my worry.

She is 4 and 95cm tall, is it below average height?

I've never heard of using peanuts to help kids grow taller though in theory that does make sense, as peanuts is a good source of protein. But it's also one of the less healthy nuts and can cause serious allergies in children. You should be careful with that. In any case, the child should have a variety of sources for protein.

Not eating well definitely contributes to less-than-ideal growth. In fact, not eating well at any age has ill effects on health in many ways.

Based on this chart http://www.hpb.gov.sg/edumaterials/down ... px?id=5496

... your observations about your DD being smaller than her peers is probably correct. She appears to be in the 10 percentile.

I don't think it's too late to help though. You may want to consider doing something about her diet and eating habits. And don't forget she should get enough sleep!
