All About Pneumonia

Has anyone here experienced sore throat and cough that developed into pneumonia? I've done some search on the net about the symptoms of pneumonia but inconclusive as there are so many types of pneumonia.

Hope to raise more awareness about this 'silent disease' as I've read that it can be a silent killer cos its symptoms can sometimes be misdiagnosed as flu, and it can turn worse drastically and be fatal. Also, it affects anyone of all ages. So it's difficult to prevent it.

Anyone has real experiences to share so we can be more aware and better able to protect ourselves and loved ones by seeking early treatment?

My elder boy contracted pneumonia shortly after he was discharged from the hospital for an overnight observation due to a fall. He just celebrated his 1 yr old birthday then. We were in a twin sharing room then. The other bed child was coughing very badly throughout our stay. Might hv picked up the bug from her.

It started out as a normal coughing episode which took a long while to nurse. His PD prescribed the usual cough medicine on each visit. A friend of my IL then recommended Dr Ngiam (still with SBCC then) who immediately sent my boy for x-ray and confirmed it was pneumonia.

It was a 3-4 days stay in the hospital with intrav. doses of antibotics and daily clearing of phelgm using the suction machine.

Since then, my boy's immune system was very low. Tends to fall sick every mth until Dr Ngiam concluded my boy's asthmatic.

Hi Jennifer, sorry to hear about your son's experience, must be traumatic for a young child. I used to have childhood asthma but fortunately got cured before I turned 18. Those who are not will carry it thru adulthood and can be more serious. So take good care of your son, and hopefully he will also get cured before turning into adult. :)
