Underweight child

Could anyone share how to put on weight for a lower primary child? She has good appetite but still underweight. I was an underweight child during my younger days till late twenties.

I don't think you should be worried at all if she's eating well. Most likely, she has good genes and high metabolic rate. It's so much better to be underweight than overweight. Some children started putting on weight when they reached puberty. What is the weight of your dd, compared to her height?

Hi Kelly2009! I know how concerned you mustbe! Is your child's doctor concerned? My P1 son is also underweight - 5-10th percentile. But doc is not concerned because my side of the family is also skinny. My bro can eat a cow each day and will still be skin and bones. Doc said you can't run away from your genes! My doc thinks parents in general should be more worried about obesity and less about whether they are underweight. Maybe bring her for a health check and seek your doc's advice. In the meantime, just make sure she has access to healthy food.

It's hard to see our children with their ribs sticking out, especially when they were chubby babies, but don't worry so much, ok? If she's eating well, she probably just has model genes!

hi all,

Thanks for your advice, Have brought her to consult doctor few years ago but doctor just joke that it's good for a girl to be slim than overweight and as long as she has good appetitie, I do not need to worry. These few weeks, when everyone sees her, 99% of the friend and relatives will always comment that she is too thin. When I give birth to her, she weighed 3.4 kg and now P2, I think is less than 20kg and height 124cm (estm).

Hi,

My P2 gal is 19.7 kg but she is only 115cm!

Very very small size. At least your gal is tall!
