I read on the internet this chiropractor, Dr Kevin Lau, specialises in treatment of scoliosis.

Anybody has experiences to share with him?

I had wanted to give Dr Kevin Lau a try but it is too far to go to Orchard 3X a week, as is the requirement for chiropractic treatment. I have just started 11 year old dd at Chiropractic First and she tells me the aches around the shoulder blades have been reduced tremendously. She has been having these aches for a while and even after going to the sinsehs, they always come back after 1 day.

hi, are you planning to go treat the aching or for scoliosis?

If you are planning for to treat scoliosis, in my personal opinion, i think chiropratic may not be the most ideal option as you said, the treatment is quite intensive, 2-3x a week, and it requires at least 1-2 years until the bones get matured since your dd is still at the growing stage..

However, it's to treat the aching & pain, i think it will be more effective..

My dd also @ 11 has scoliosis.. i went to consult Dr Kevin Lau too.. went to seek a couple of opinions (including seeing Dr Kevin Lau), chiropractic is too time consuming & stressful for dd and myself to visit 2-3x a week.. and it requires the min 2years of treatment and results is not guaranteed. Also, the treatment is very costly too! In the end, i chose to go with the spinecore soft brace for dd.. if you require more detail, do pm me.

HTH.

Im based in Japan and bought his book Your Plan for Natural Scoliosis Prevention and Treatment and found it very helpful for my daughter. Anyone else tried his program from his book and how is it different from going to his clinic?

The book and Dr Lau's treatment was literally was a god send for my daughters condition. My daughter who is 14 was diagnosed with scoliosis 4 years ago and had done everything like bracing hard and soft (nothing worked, in fact it kept getting worse) and was eventually recommended for surgery. This treatment has been a blessing and after 3 months of review with health promotion board her curve went from 46 degrees to 32 and the best news is the doctor overseeing her case said she doesnt need surgery any more! My daughter was seeing Dr Lau 2 times a week for 3 months and during that time it was difficult to get her to be diligent with the exercises he taught her to do at home.

The therapy is only 3 months with xray reviews... I dont know why someone mentioned 2 years min to see results as I brought this up with him when I first met him. I dont want to wait 2 years to see results. He said he rarely ever sees patient over 6 months as he tries to teach the kids the exercises they need to do to continue there therapy at home. Now my only headache is convincing her to keep doing them while is an uphill battle.

Scoliosis is one of the worst condition to face as a mother and I hope no one has to make the decision of putting there kids through spinal surgery like i did.

Hi Macy, thanks for sharing. Am considering my 2 daughters for treatment. How many x-rays did your girl have to take during the 3 months therapy? And roughly how much is the cost?

After much deliberation between spinecor and Dr Kevin Lau, I decided to give Dr Kevin Lau a try.
Apparently his package for 12 sessions is $2500 and the 3 month package is $4500 or $4800.

Grace and Faith, let me know when you will be starting your daughters' treatment.
And Good Luck

Hi Sammifan, Thanks for the info. All the best for your girl's treatment too. Is your girl still going for check ups at HPB? Did Dr Lau mention how many x-rays will be taken? My elder girl who wore the brace for 3 yrs had to take x ray every time she goes for checkup and I am worried about that.

Hi Grace and Faith,

We have not gone to see Dr Kevin Lau yet but will go this week.
How long has your daughter been wearing the brace and is it the hard type? Any improvement?

My daughter was not identified by HPB. I think they missed her cos her top curve is not so bad but the curve at the bottom is quite bad at about 30 degrees.
She went to SGH and they said X ray to be done every 6 months during reviews.

She's been going for chiropractic treatment since 2 years ago. But we stopped last year cos we were not sure whether it was really useful.
When we did the x ray 1.5 years after the 1st x ray, the curvature was quite similar to the first. So I am glad. But as she is entering puberty we are afraid that she may not be so lucky at her next growth spurt, and from my reading of scoliosis treatment, it seems incorporating the right exercise could be very key in preventing progression.
Dr Lau seems to incorporate exercise as a large part of his treatment.

We wish the kids all the best in their treatments.
I will keep you updated on our experience with Dr Kevin Lau after we have seen him.

Hi grace and faith, Dr Lau recommends that we maintain the scheduled check up with HPB so to not over xray. I paid $4k for 3 months. Previously I spent more on a hard brace then a soft one but the didnt work.

We are continuing with the program and I hope we never have to go thru surgery... will wait and see as we have a check up in a few months at HPB.
