Hi,parents. My DH just discovered that my DS had his left side of the face swollen this morning. So I rush him to Polyclinic. Doctor said it's Mumps.
He was given 1 week MC. He had given the MMR vaccine twice before, the last one was just last year. I just wonder will this swollen be other causes?
Do anyone had this experience before? I was so worried

No need to worry, my DD got mumps when she was 5 years old despite MMR.
MMR is not 100% protective. Anyway mumps is self limiting and it will go away by itself, although there is a very slim chance it may affect the reproductive organs and cause problems with fertility.
There is no cure. So just rest, fluids, soft diet and medicine for pain relief should suffice.
Wishing your DS a speedy recovery!

this is from old wives tale, to treat the mumps :

use a marker, write the chinese word 'tiger' on the swollen side, and circle the word 'tiger', and best effect if the word is written a person born in the year of tiger

strictly old wives tale hor .... :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Avoid sour food as it increases saliva production.
So avoid citrus fruits for the time being.
Avoid spicy food.
Otherwise no special diet, but soft diet and fluids will be good, since it is difficult to chew. I gave my DD porridge and soups.

Actually after my DD got mumps, I got it a few days later, cos I shared her drink just 1 day before she developed it.
So avoid taking your DS left overs as a common transmission is through saliva.

Yup, one sided cheek swelling.
Otherwise was well and it subsided after 3 days.
Hope your MMR vaccine is effective and you won't get it.
