Hi mummies, im super confused with all the information that is available. Was told that the glass bottles from the hospital is good for storing BM - freezing / chilling / Warming. WAs thinking that i can do the same for my baby food. But saw this info at this webpage: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/FreezePage.htm

So are those glass bottles that we got from the hospitals safe? Any mummies can advise?

How about the sterilising part, by right if we do put our baby bottles into the steriliser to steriliser, "if we do not open the cover, the bottles will be sterile for 4 hours, after tat, they wont be sterile anymore", but if we open it n expose to the open air, how long will it remain sterile? Or it will be not sterile anymore but its ok? And for the plastic liners, they are supposed to be pre-sterilised. How long will they remain sterile?

Does anybody use Ameda Lactaline breast pumps? What are you using to store your collect and store your EBM?

First things first, you should report to newbies, okie!

If the hospitals are
using it, it can't be
wrong, right?

This is personal experience,
and not to be taken at 100%
okay..

I collected those jars from hospital,
cos its free. Cos i had too much milk
and its the most feasible idea at that
time. Sterilisation done as per normal
milk bottles with steriliser or the dunk
in microwave type or the cook in pot
till water boils method.. whichever you
usually do..

I froze not too full, yes... in case when
frozen it could crack. When taking out
sure need to defrost prior to drinking.
Hospital would have advised during
the post-natal stay with regards to
the temperature - in tepid/tap water
first... then plc bottle in slightly warm
water... then feed.

So far has worked for me without any
shards of glass and stuff... my kiddies
are now 5 and 7..

wished i could get the industrial kind
as provided by the hospital during my
stay. Super smooth and painless! But
too expensive to invest, unless i was
planning a football team kinda family.

Oops, didnt noe i need to report... hehe.. had just done it..

i wrote emails to all the formula milk companies and so far 2 had called me back to confirm that the glass bottles that they used to supply to hospital to feed newborn babies are meant for 1 time use only. They are NOT suitable for freezing and sterilising. :!: guess have to throw away all my frozen milk supplies!! Though hubby is saying since so many mummies are using it, just like what buds you did... maybe just dun throw and use it one last time.

Now need to look for alternative storage methods that does not have BFA and whatever no good substances that come along with plastic products which at the same time can be sterilised. Storage of BM and solids for babies need to be sterilised right?? Bought the sensible milklines tray which is supposed to let BM be poured in them toi be frozen and then kept in freezer bags. They do not have BFA in them, but they cannot be sterilised and freezer bags are not sterilised too, wldnt tat contaminate the BM? hiaz... headache....

ok, ok, back to biz. i used avent system, pumped milk into the sterilised milk bottle directly, capped and freeze. Later stage when i went back to work, i used Gerber Seal N Go Breast Milk Storage Bags, these are sterilised.

Its not only how you store it, its also how you thaw it too. I know of too many cases of thawing/warming of milk by dunking frozen milk in boiling hot water, which destroys all the nutrients in the milk. i thawed milk in the fridge from freezer to chill section (i will put the frozen ones day before use into the chill section), 10 mins b4 feeding time, run it in tap water b4 dunking into warm water to slowly raise the milk temp to room, then feed.

Don't fret, you only need to be extra, extra careful if your child is prematured or has some health complications. Otherwise, just remember to keep your hands and equipments clean, all will be well.

Maybe you can find someone to bring them back for you, or even order online yourself. Target etc sells them, I think.
