Natural mattress vs Sealy mattresses

Postby coolit » Wed Sep 28, 2011 6:28 pm

Hi everyone,

My hubby has been getting sick recently, he went to do some research and read
that most mattresses contain formaldehyde and he read that it can even cause cancer. Not sure how true it is as so many things are said to cause cancer
nowadays. Anyway we are using a Sealy mattress but he wants to get a
Natural mattress that he says may not be as comfortable but does not have
chemicals in them that can cause cancer.

Before my hubby starts to look more into this, I thought I could get some help
from parents here. Anyone knows anything about natural mattresses or have
any suggestions for what mattresses are good and will not cause harm?

IMHO, what matters is the comfort level. I will not be so worried about the cancer causing thingy.

I bought a foldable mattress (3 sections) that is stuffed with coconut husks. It is a bit firm to sleep on but I guess you can call it natural. I bought it at NTUC extra.

How about bamboo charcoal products?

I have come across bamboo charcoal filled pillow and bolster but not mattress.

If mattress is affected, does it include pillows and bolster too?

Last yr bought seahorse mattress, the items have the very new smell, so I aired it a few days before I use.

I read that the smell is caused by the VOCs, so does that mean all our furnitures are cancer causing in that sense?

I'm more paraniod now becos mummy to 3 young kids. How much is our system able to take all these chemical.

Whenever I see my bb sleep in crawling position, I wonder is she breathing toxic from the material. I know, I know, paraniod but having kids does that to me......

The bamboo filled with charcoal one is good, it removes impurities from the air, and also from detoxifies the environment.

It is also of reasonable price. Try it.

Hi,

We bought a natural latex bed a few years back. It is nice to have it when the air con is on but not when there is none. The heat traps in. The pro is that it is natural good against bed bugs not like some of the mattress that are coated with anti insect repellent which caused the smell. Overall, air it and use charcoal pillow (some use dry tea leaves) are good.

We are looking forward to change our mattress to a Serta, you can easy get a good discount during fair.
