Nope. I don’t wear mine to sleep anymore ever since my teeth are straight and in their final intended position.

not for life...from my understanding about 2 years after braces are removed.

I was once told once you receive a retainer, it must be worn every night for the rest of your life, for braces it usually is up to 2 years depending on the severity of your teeth.

Not true lah, I stopped wearing my retainer after a while and my teeth are still dead straight. You don’t need to be a slave to something if you know it’s not needed anymore.

wear the retainer for life? :yikes: maybe 1-2 years to keep the beautiful pearls in line after the braces have been removed.

Hi Janet,

Your son total wore the metallic braces at NUH, for more than 5 years, plus another 2 years retainer to make the teeth stay in shape, don't move ?

When I was young, I wore retainers for about a year after all the orthodontic adjustment was done. I wasn't told to wear retainers after that. 40 years later, my teeth are still fine. My daughters were told by their orthodontist to wear retainers for 2 yrs, but my regular general practice dentist believes that it is better to keep them on life-long. One daughter had them removed a few years ago, and the other still has them on. I don't see any difference, frankly.

this poor boy suffered since he was born.
