Kids that don't like to eat Veggies

Postby susu2626 » Tue Nov 15, 2011 11:01 pm

Both of my kids dislike to eat veggies! Eating veggies is like forcing them to take pills!
Everytime there is a plate of veggie, they will avoid it or just eat the leaves and will left behind all the stalks.
Can't brain-wash them to eat it.
Any parents can share their experience here :boogie: and how you overcome it?

My 8 year old is totally anti-veg!
I am at my wits end nagging at him about it.. .. :stompfeet:

Maybe find out what it is that they do not like? Texture, color, taste? Different sources of vegetables can taste different, you can also experiment with that. (e.g. cherry tomatoes from different farms can taste different)

My kids love vegetables, but it does depend on how they are cooked. Like many kids, they do not like mushy bitter vegetables. They take a lot of salad (with oil/vinegar), and quick stir-frys (just salt, garlic, oil/butter). I also vary the vegetables so that they don't get bored. Occasionally they may go off one vegetable, I will just rotate it out of the menu for a month or so and bring it back later.

If the kids love cheese, you can blanch cauliflower or broccoli, then add grated cheese, put in oven until the cheese melts. It's really good, we love this dish.

I am also having a headache from getting my youngest to eat veggies. Even peas and carrots are a no-no.

Yes mine too, I was thinking that worse come to worst, let them drink fruit juice everyday. That is the only way, some vitamin C will go in.

Yes your suggestion sounds good. My kids love to eat cheese, maybe I can mix these veggies with some cheese.

When DS was young, I cut veg into small pieces and fried with meat or fish. He did not reject veg after that though I would say he is still more of a meat lover. DD did not have this issue at all as she loves most veg and fruits. She is more a veg lover and does not like meat as much.

How about serving carrot, celery, cucumber sticks as snacks, accompanied by a nice dip? Or wrap stir-fry minced meat with a nice piece of crunchy lettuce and some shredded carrot?

Just a suggestion. I dun hv this problem as my girls love their greens. My 3 yr old even eats bitter gourd and egg plant :)
