Which is your child's favourite unhealthy treat?

There are lots of sinful, unhealthy, unnecessary snacks all targeted specifically at children. As parents we have to do our best to fight them off (while secret crunching on our own keropok late at night...) and limit our kids from consuming these horrible things. But they are useful as bribes.

Which is your child's favourite(s) and how often does he/she get it?

Mine is ice cream. Given a choice I'm sure she'd eat it everyday but thankfully I got her under control. Usually once per fortnight.

My DD also doesn't seem to particularly like sweets, she seems to prefer salty, cracker thingeys. And fries. Again, all under strict control, esp. when she's sick.

Mine is soft drinks.
The fridge at my place is forever stock up with soft drinks (not by me!! :x ).
I tried to substitute with fruit juice, but i believe they contain just as much sugar.

Hmmm....my child has no character in this dept. No favourite sinful food.

Just now when I took her to school, it was too early so I went to my favourite corner nearby her school to eat ice-cream as the weather was simply too humid and hot.

Me: What flavour do you want?
Gal: It's ok Mum, I had my lunch. So I am full now.
Me: You sure? The weather is killing outside.
Gal: Umm...ok Mum...anything you choose...
Me: Ok, your favourite flavour ok?
Gal: Ok.
After a while....only a few spoonful of it..
Gal: Mum, I am done.
Me: Huh? You sure? You hardly change the shape of the scoop!
Gal: Mum, if I eat too much, I may end up coughing later....so this is just nice.
Me:  Ok, if you don't want anymore, don't force yourself. (afterall this is only a dessert, not main meal)

She has absolutely no liking for candies nor snacks nor softdrinks. Even for chocs and cakes that she does not mind eating, she will give herself a limit as to how much she can eat to avoid falling sick. Her friends can eat all the titbits in front of her during recess without her batting an eyelid. :|

It's weird, so all these are not something she can be bribed with. Sometimes I wonder if my casual "advices" on food intake, like what all parents would do, has been too powerful until it becomes indelible ideas in her little mind on what is good and bad for the body.

DS simply hates ice-cream, cos its sweet and cold. His fav is chips, the saltier the more he wants. Cheesy biscuits and keropoks. Its strange cos I m the chocolate and ice-cream freak at home. DH likes sweet stuff too. No one at home actually likes chips, we would only buy them when we have guests. Now I keep a small bag in the freezer (out of sight/reach).

He is pretty picky, so I do indulge him once a week, during weekend whenever I want him to take his nap or drag him away from TV.

Very interesting! So this confirms my suspicions so far, kids today are very varied... I'm surprised. Good for you ks2me, your girl.

jeda.... tsk tsk tsk.... so who's stocking the fridge? Actually, got, there are fruit juices with no added sugar. Except it's still very sweet, so for me we always do 50% plain water + 50% juice. This also helps to bring the juice's temperature up.

MLR, it sounds so strange to me to learn that a child exists who hates ice cream! My girl is SOOOOOOO grateful whenever I buy her a cone, she would thank me sweetly at least a few times while she wallops it.

Actually no. I suspect it may handicap her socially if she does not enjoy eating such things with her friends in the long run when they just want to pig out.

Really ? I think chances are she may find friends among peers. You know, how some supermodels (don't) eat- though that's an extreme case.

Besides, tastes change when they grow up!

Yup I can only  that she outgrows her "nonsensical" behaviour. It really irks me at times. :(

The in thing now for teenagers are perhaps very costly but small serving of fat free ice cream or yogurt like ice cream or whatever they claim to be healthier. Maybe you girl will like that better.

Thanks for the suggestion, just gotta try everything with her...cos her taste bud a bit special...things that will make kids go gaga....cannot cause any ripples in her. Do you know she has no special liking for Mcdonalds too? If she has to eat, she will but she will never ask to eat at Mcdonalds.
