I suggest Centrum Silver for those above 50 years old. You can get it cheaply and original at a shop at Chinatown area. Do PM me if you want to know the shop name and location.

I hesitate to recommend coz every person is different and may not be able to accept some supplements even if it is supposedly good for them. This is esp so for old folks coz they may have underlying conditions (eg. diabetes, high cholesterol, blood pressure, thalassemia (cannot take iron supplements), arthritis, rheumatism, glaucoma etc) which they may not be aware of. Best is to do a detailed check-up, take the medication prescribed for that condition, and eat well coz diet plays an important part in being healthy.

Many old folks suffer from malnutrition as they can't chew well. So, dun let the teeth issues affect their health. If they eat generally well, then all they really need is Calcium and Vitamin D. Some Fish Oil is also good as it prevents dry eye and mouth symptoms (common in post-menopausal women). They can also supplement with Chinese tonic soups once a week to invigorate the blood and qi.

Be careful with using Chinese herbs such as ginseng as well as these could be too potent for some body constitutions. My mom cannot tolerate ginseng even though it is supposed to be a good herb. Such pple can only take "moderate 温" tonics like angelica, bazhen, sishen etc. Bazhen 八珍 is a good tonic soup for women and men.

I just tried black garlic for my mother a few months back....didn't expect the result to be so fast and good.

She came back to me excitedly one day and report that her high blood pressure has returned to normal and the doctor who has been treating her all these years was quite surprised too.

She also said that her watery nose is much better and exclaimed that her cold and flu recover faster than normal.

I feel very proud for once making her extremely happy.

I order my black garlic from South Korea where i have a contact. The price is extremely cheap. Only about 25-35% of the price that you can presently get from the market. I know it sounds like advertisement but it is true after i do research on its effect on high blood pressure. You may PM me if you are keen to get the cheaper black garlic.

My aunties, uncles etc...are all planning to stop using chinese herbal tonics and use black garlic instead to replace them. The effect they get from the black garlic i bought for them is all quite positive. The reason they have not tried before that was because of the high price (for example at watson, 6 per packet for $68). The price i get is probably just around 25% of that and is equally good since we have all tried. Moreover, it is from a reputable Korean black garlic company.

Black garlic isn't in the chinese herbal system, however, if we were to use the chinese herbal theory to make a judgement, black garlic is a tonic that nourishes the kidney, live and stomach. It is suitable for old people as well as young.

It's in which 'format' - capsule/pills/powder etc?
Thanks.

It is in raw garlic form. But black garlic is sweet sour in taste. And my mother, aunties and uncles are all pleasantly surprise....is it like they praise me for being so clever....taste so good and is good for their health.

Hi, does one eat the garlic raw, on its own? Or cooked in dishes, like the normal garlic? Thanks.

The black garlic should be eaten raw. It tastes like titbits, sweet sour and is rather pleasant...I won't say everybody like the taste but most people are ok with the taste.

Some people use it for cooking but i think heating will destroy some of the health benefits and is totally unnecessary.
