I sprained ankle once and it was swollen. I went to Eu Yan Sang. I went to the clinic at Toa Payoh, opp the Toa Payoh public library.

The physician let blood out from the swollen area and I was able to walk normally.

I do not have the contact number or the name of the physician becos I visited the clinic once.

Maybe can go see dr Jessica that is mentioned in the flat feet topic? She is foot specialist, although I don't think she will "let blood".
I find the thought of having blood taken out scary!! :nosebleed:

It was scary but for my case so effective. When I was younger and sprained my ankle, I went to the traditional tui na master. For that method, my ankle was wrapped for 2 wks, need to change medication plaster.

For the letting blood out method it was quick and I could walk normally too.

Though I'm not sure if all sprained ankle can be treated in the same manner. I didn't thought to ask.

Thanks fongjin & SAHM_TAN ,
My DS1 was the one who sprained his ankle but he still can walk so I need to observe a few days before I can decide what to do.

Hi, Mychildren.

Sorry, didn't see your post earlier, hope it's not too late...

If there is no obvious swelling, and if you feel the pain only when you exert/ walk: then it's not too bad a sprain. You can self medicate with:

1) Volteran Emugel (Diclofenac diethylammonium)

2) PanaMax, by Panadol (Sodium Diclofenac.)

Rub onto the affected area twice daily, wash your hands after application (to minimize unwarranted excessive absorption of the medication.)

Voltaren is of the ibuprofen family; you will have to observe your dosage if you are also orally on this family of anti-inflammatory medication.

It's advised against using it continuously for long term.

They are available at all major pharmacies.

Rest your sprained foot high whenever possible, cushion it with a baby pillow when you sleep, use heat pad after long walk, wear an ankle guard round the clock, keep wearing it for at least 5-7 days even after your sprained ankle is fully recovered.

Lastly, wear a comfortable pair of sneakers, no more slippers or high heels.

Hope this helps...

Take care.

PM me if you need further clarification.
