Just wondering if anyone has children with trigger finger problem? Daddy noticed that my boy right thumb is "bowed" about 3 weeks ago and PD said he had triggered thumb.

Basically his thumb is locked whenever he uses it.

This is relatively uncommon in children. More commonly occuring with adults and often it is a trigger finger.

The cause for this occurance in children in unclear. It is postulated that there are congenital factors as well as possible trauma.

Either way, it can be worrying....

How old is your child? And is he complaining of pain? And what did the PD suggest?

Generally, there are several options. One is to wait and see if it resolves spontaneously. One report indicated that up to 49% will resolve by itself. If it doesn't, surgery may be necessary. It is usually an simple procedure with low risk of infection and recurrance.

If you are very worried, consult a hand surgeon. :)

Hope that helps to reduce your worries.
