Hi,

Took my 6yr old girl for passport photo taking yesterday and the photographer commented that her shoulder is uneven with left side higher than the right. (didn't notice before that  ).
Any idea where can I seek help? :thankyou:

I would bring her to see the paediatrician. If the paediatrician suspects there's any underlying problem such as scoliosis, he/she can make the necessary referral to see an orthopaedic surgeon.

Alternatively, you can call up KK Hospital. I think they have an orthopaedic department for children to diagnose any potential spinal/shoulder problem.

Try speaking to your GP first for initial assessment. The GP can then recommend you to a suitable specialist if necessary.

Thanks for the quick reply Motherhen & jtoh.
Was thinking of calling up KKH for an appointment. Will bring her to GP for initial assessment tml. Hope it's nothing serious and is her posture issue. (finger cross)

Bring her to the GP, concluded is her posture problem. Any good brace to recommend or points to share? Thanks in advance.

If it's posture problem, didn't the GP give some recommendations?

Encourage her to use backpack (loop over both shoulders) instead of messenger bags (sling on one shoulder). Monitor sitting and standing posture.

What kind of a brace are you referring to? The soft brace is only available through medical centre. It looks like this http://www.integratif.com.sg/scoliosis/article_kkh.htm but it's only meant for patients with scoliosis. It's better for you to seek a 2nd opinion from KKH Orthopaedic department if you are unsure.

If you have gotten a referral letter from the polyclinic (I am not sure about referral from GP) , fees at KKH will be subsidised.

Hi,
I got a referral letter to go to KKH. You may want to check her hip to knee (length) and knee to ankle length and compare both legs.
I recently noticed my girl's posture and the PD mentioned that she has leg length discrepancy between 2 legs. She is 10 now and has recently grown , hence can see clearly.
Checking at KKH should be the best choice.

Body braces can sometimes be a double edged sword. If too much reliance is put on the braces, it would weaken the muscles. Best to used when something is broken (or if prescribed by doctor) but not habitually. Instead, you could consider activities such as swimming, yoga or pilates that helps encourages good posture, strenghtening of muscles, etc. The doctors might prescribe physiotherapy as well.
