confusing nutrition labels

I was at NTUC doing marketing & deciding if I should buy 'healthier' eggs since dh & I are getting older & I love to eat eggs.

Usually, I tell my helper to buy pasar eggs & the cheapest one when doing marketing. So I decided to check on the nutrition labels to see if it is worth the switch esp many higher grades of eggs are avail now.

So, I picked up a pack of normal pasar eggs retailing @ $1.95 & another pack of Pasar brand eggs with the triangle healthier choice logo & with words "30% less cholestrol". I zoomed in on the cholerstrol figures under per 100gm, I could see that the figure was 295 (or 395 sorry can't remember the exact figure). And then I check the 'normal' ones & was shocked to find the cholestrol stated for per 100 gm is 172 (also can't remember the exact liao). How can the cholestrol for normal cheaper eggs by much lower than one that is touted 'healthier choice' by HPB?

Anyone aware of this?

Maybe the labeling is about the total amount of cholesterol, both the HDL and LDL. Higher cholesterol not necessarily bad for health unless it's high in LDL.

30% less cholesterol could be referring to 30% less Low-density lipoprotein (LDL)

Food that contain higher amount of High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is indeed a healthier choice.
