GP to recommend?

Had three GPs in my life - all prescribe antibiotics whenever there is fever.....

Had tried pediatrician and found that the one I tried thrice for my daughter, is more holistic in her approach - monitor, alternatives before antibiotics. But I did not continue to see her due to cost issues. Still using my family GP but using my common sense not to use the prescribed antibiotics - so far, 8 times prescribed for my child, 8 times no need to use after waiting a day or two.... but I am feeling the stress of being my own doctor. I need some doctor whom I can trust - who does not prescribe antibiotics as if its like water.

try - how old is your child? It could be a good clue.....

From birth to about age 5+, same for my daughter. Until I got pretty fed up with western medicine and GPs in general. The best part was, the antibiotics and other medicines never seemed to have any effect. And when my DD just kept on being sick, the doctors just say, "oh it's a secondary infection."

Right......... :x

So, starting around when she was age 5/6+, I began taking this stance: forget the GPs as much as possible, and focus on good diet and supplements, build the child's immunity.

Some key points:
1) Honey, a dose every day
2) cod liver oil and DHA supplement - a dose every day
3) The moment a mild cough/runny nose develops, stop all dairy products, all fried stuff.
4) Drink loads and loads of water (something I'm still working on cos my DD is a bit anti-water).
5) diluted Eucalyptus oil, sprayed in bedlinen + body (front and back) every night before she sleeps (this is when she is sick)
6) No air-con is the norm, air-con (esp. sleeping in it) is the rarity.

... result: drastically reduced occurrence of flu; if flu is caught, symptoms usually never get serious and all clear within a week, sometimes a little more. But no more coughing for months on end, etc.

The next milestone we're aiming for is getting her to learn to blow her nose. :stupid:

DS1 was down with bad cough and flu. Saw the (usual) pediatrician at Bukit Timah Plaza, but got no better despite two visits. Went to see a GP (Nam Seng Clinic) at Beauty World Centre; GP prescribed Klacid, an antibotics, which managed to get the cough and flu off DS1. On hindside, wondering why GP is so quick to presecribe antibotics when the PD had not done so on the last 2 occasions? hmm..

sashimi blur lah. DD already knows how to blow her nose; it's her phlegm that she can't spit out. She just can't seem to get it no matter how many times we demo to her. :stupid:

The clinic I go to doesn't prescribe antibiotics immediately. For example, I tend to get throat infections more often than I catch a cold. If I see either GP (there are 2) while my infection is still in the early stages, he (both are male) will suggest that I avoid antibiotics first and let my immune system, water, a strict diet and rest do the job. He will only prescribe medicine for my other symptoms. However, if my infection is already in the later stages, we (me and the GP) will both agree that it's best I take antibiotics or else I will take a longer time to recover and thus suffer more. I agree not because he said so but because it's due to past experience.

Hi, just to share my experience as well. I had a fair bit of experience, see my girls are frequently down with flu, phelgmy cough. You can imagine, i am very anxious about their health.

Maybe you can try Nam San at Jalan Jurong Kechil. I visited with my girl for flu and cough and find that Dr. is not those who jumps quickly to antibiotic. He explained why he had to administer certain medication. I like his approach. I had all the while sent my girls to pediatrian and ends up often with antibotics (augmentim) and need to consume 3 bottles straight. Now their teeth had white spot on it (due to too much antibiotic someone told me).

In addition, i also brought my gals to YuGuo, kembangan for children tui na every sunday(from CCK). This had also proved to be very effective for them. Touch wood, they had not been down with anything even though with the erratic weather lately.

Of course, i controlled their diet as well, more water, less junkies, etc.

Oopsh. Sorry lah. This is what happens when one finishes a 3-hour meeting and is 2 minutes away from knock-off time.
