Hi parents,

i have a 3-4 year old boy who has been having runny nose and coughs with mild fever once a month for the past half year. Do you have similar experiences you would like to share? My main concern is whether this frequency of runny nose and coughs is normal for the 3-4 age group. What are the most probable causes?

Thanks.

My son had this problem when he first attended nursery...4 years old then. Fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat when school reopened. Then in July and sep after the holidays, cycle starts again. Almost took him out of kindy. This went on for 2 years until his immunity built up. Kids in childcare would experience this too, in enclosed areas.

My PD said this is quite normal esp for kids in childcare. Give more Vit C or multivitamins to build immunity. Make sure the kid takes enough water and nutritious food. When they reach 5 or 6, it gets less often. Don't worry so much.

kids are not exposed to virus before kindy...i remember son fell sick less often when he was in k2.
