Dry, cracked lips

DD has a recurring problem, her upper lip is mostly dry and often cracked, with skin peeling.
This started from the last few weeks at the nanny's to now Nursery 1 at school.
We used Sebamed baby lip balm on her, it just helps temporarily.
She drinks just enough water, not too much, yet not too little.
She's still using pacifier though only at night and we made sure to wash the pacifier with pigeon soap & water.
The funny thing is, only her upper lip is affected, bottom lip is fine.

Anyone have any ideas or came across this before?

Does she bite or chew her upper lip? Has she been licking it a lot because it is cracked? All these will make it crack.

Otherwise, check the corners of her lips as well and fingernails. If these are also cracked or brittle, give a multi mineral / vitamin supplement.

To soften the lips and help in healing, you can try using honey if she is not allergic. Apply a very thin layer of honey on the lip and put a small cling film over it for 10min. Remove and rinse off. This was from a Japanese beauty book. I sometimes have very cracked lips from using the wrong lipsticks and it helps.

I have cracked and dry lips myself, you can check out Blistex from Watson, my friend introduce me and it is pretty good. Serving me well, a little pricey compared to other lip balm but the result is fantastic. Or you can try Burt's Bee, their lip balm is good too!

Hello Shinri,

For dry lips, can try Vaseline Lip Therapy cream or any Vaseline products as it is very effective in moisturizing and relieving pain and flakiness due to dryness :D

You can get them almost everywhere at Watsons, Guardian, NTUC, Unity, Giant, Cold Storage and Sheng Siong too. It costs $3.40 at Watsons! http://www.watsons.com.sg/Product-Categ ... p/BP_43259. I used to have dry lips last time too and have also been using other great lip balms everyday to moisturize from brands such as Lip Ice Mentholatum and Maybelline New York Baby Lips.

And I came across this info too on how to get rid of chapped lips. Hope this helps! ;)

How to Deal with Chapped Lips
1) Hydrate and help to heal
Avoid spicy food or citrus drinks, as these could irritate your skin – instead drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly is an excellent choice as it forms a protective layer on the lips and penetrates deep down to rehydrate the skin and speed up the its natural renewal process.

2) Don’t bite the lips

3) Licking dry lips can make them worse
Licking dry lips and coating them with a layer of saliva may seem like a quick relief, but it’s not helping your lips or keeping them moist. As the saliva evaporates, your lips will just be dryer than they were before.

4) Avoid touching the lips
Avoid picking those little flakes of skin off the lips with the fingers – only use them to apply a lip balm or petroleum jelly to your lips.

5) Protect from elements
Apply Vaseline or lip balm when heading outside to form the protective layer and help the lips to stay moisturized.

Can try the Vaseline Therapy (Advanced Formula). Works for myself and my nieces. Cracked lips would heal quite fast - but of course, mine is not the very serious type. Can consider it.

I found that Vaseline works pretty great but it does feel annoying to have on you could try putting it on your child while she is asleep.
