Face-care Regime - at what age do we begin?

Postby DylaDee » Tue Jul 02, 2013 12:27 pm

Can I just have a rough idea, at what age is it appropriate to start a face care regime for girls?

While I am keen to start my kids early, a friend who is a specialist in skin care told me that young kids just need plain water and nothing else to wash their face. Besides that, they can use moisturiser (eg. baby lotion) for their skin and it should be good.

For my upper primary, I let them use clean & clear facial wash or whatever i am using. This year, I also use those black head remover sticker for my P6. If she is fine, I am actually keen to start them on face sun block cream as a form of protection against pigmentation.

I recently heard a learning that acnes/ pimples tend to shift downwards as we age. Eg. when we are young, it tend to be higher on the forehead, and the outbreak shift down with age, etc... now I am wondering if that is the reason why I do get mini once in a while outbreak at the jaws level... a sign that I am old now.

Does it work for him?

During my teens life, I had outbreak on my forehead. Those mini pimples... I used mandom. It is very cheap eg. less than $4. Till now, I am still using it together with my SKII, etc... I cannot use anything else for cleansing. Eg. clinique, kao or any other brand, I will get outbreak when I do that. Another new product I found good was Acnes.

My niece during early teens had outbreak and I got for her clean & clear products (cleanser, toner, etc...). It works for her. Now at 17, she is not flawless but at least ok skin. I think for their age, they must make an effort to cleanse regularly. Another older nephew was lazy in cleansing and he has more pimples problem and had to see a dermatologist. But I believe genes also plays a part.

My 13-year old DD is only using Philosophy cleanser for her pimples on her forehead. Not using toner and moisturiser yet.

Apart from that, I try to make sure she takes a glass of orange juice every afternoon.

With exposure to sun, having PE and all that, his face is sticky...guess that could be why pimples also popping out and nose full of blackheads. Plain water is not enough to keep face clean. I remember using mandom too...nice cool feeling.
On top of washing his face, I reminded him not to touch bcos the hands are dirty. Not that I want him to be sissy, but he has to start learning to look after his face.

i guess it depends on the kid's skin condition. if puberty hasnt started to ruin the blessings of baby skin it is wise not to start on the face washes, since more often than not harsh chemicals can be found in the gentlest of soaps.

Someone told me that the big pimples around the jaws that adults get are stress pimples. You only get it during times of stress, so the solution is to destress. Maybe you can serve and see if that is true for you.

Me I don't get stress pimples. I just break out in psoriasis which stresses me out further. now I try to do mini meditation when I feel my blood pressure rising and it seems to help a bit.

6 is very young and unusual for oily skin. I suggest checking her diet and reducing fried food and unhealthy snacks if she does take them. For the oily part of the skin, after washing with water, you can cut a slice of cucumber and rub it over the skin to reduce the oil. it is a gentle treatment for oily skin and will not harm a child's skin. If it continues to get oilier as she gets older, you can get a gentle clay mask from any reputable natural brand (Aesop, philisophy etc) and do a thin clay mask for her over trouble areas once a week.
