Long John Silver's "Big Catch" the unhealthiest fast food

Consumer watchdog testing finds two-weeks worth of transfat in one of the Long John Silver's meal.

With an ocean of bad food out there, a consumer watchdog has named Long John Silver's "Big Catch" the "worst restaurant meal in America" because it contains a whale of fat and salt.

Testing by the Center for Science in the Public Interest found two weeks worth of transfat -- 33 grams -- in one meal of the deep-fried Haddock fillet with onion rings and hushpuppies. The American Heart Association recommends just two grams of transfat daily.

The CSPI said that transfat is "the most powerful promoter of heart disease in the food supply" and that all of it in the Big Catch comes from partially hydrogenated frying oil. The watchdog noted that there's less transfat in meals in California, where regulations limit it to a half gram per serving. These franchises fry in canola oil.

The Big Catch also contains 19 grams of saturated fat, almost 3,700 milligrams of sodium and 1,320 calories, the CSPI reported.....

Long John Silver’s may not be the biggest fast food chain in the nation, but now it has the dubious honor of being the restaurant franchise dishing out America’s most unhealthy meal.

At 1,320 calories, 33 grams of trans fats and whopping 3,700 milligrams of sodium, the seafood chain’s ‘Big Catch’ limited-time only fish platter handily ‘won’ the ‘Worst Restaurant Meal in America’ distinction Tuesday by a U.S. nutrition advocacy group.

For comparison, McDonald's double quarter pounder Big Mac with cheese packs 750 calories, 43 grams of fat, 19 grams of saturated fat, 2.5 grams of trans fats and 1,280 milligrams of sodium ......

what's hushpuppies?? Got such kind of food meh? I'm imagining cute puppies inside.

Not sure if Big Catch is avail here, but I thought that the KFC Ironman burger should rank amongst the top unhealthiest....2 crispy meat patties with hashbrown and bacon. Was quite nice but oily and all.

Actually I used to like LJS's chicken. Used to have that after swimming cca in school. But these days, too much batter, a bit jelak. Find their fries nicer than McDs.

even since they were 'forced' to use vegetable oil for fries, it never tasted as good!

The main issue is the large amount of batter and the deep frying in hydrogenated oil. The fish is ok.

Read somewhere that the hush puppies are essentially deep fried batter.

Deep fried cornmeal balls. Kinda reminds me of Vadai.

The small/scattered batter bits? Those are the best. (but only if cooked properly).

Now I have a name for that crispy thing.
