I have been cooking brown rice for my hubby, but my kids complained it too hard. Normally , I soak the rice overnite, but it also seems hard . Sometime I even soak it for 2 nights ,then it became softer a bit.
Anyone has any ideas or receipe to make brown rice softer or nicer so that the kids will eat ?

I bought the Blue Elephant brand red brown rice for my kids. No need to soak. Cook as per normal white rice. If you want softer, add more water.

Hi,

I bought the Elephant brand too. No need to soak. If want to cook until super soft, I just dump into slow cooker...

For polished rice (i.e. normal white rice), the water measurement on rice cooker show for 1 cup, 2 cups... 4 cups.... corresponding to the number cups of rice... e.g. if you measure 1 cup of polished rice, you pour in 1 cup of water.... FOR BROWN RICE or UNPOLISHED RICE, you put in double the portion of water... 1 cup of rice, 2 cups of water. Add olive oil (1 tablespoon) ... add in one or two slices of ginger. You don't need to soak the rice at all. A SIA steward taught me that years ago... and he used to have an organic food cafe at Novena Square... don't know where he has gone now.

Hope that helps.

Hi, the brand is Sukha House. you can order online http://www.sukhahouse.com/ or check out the medical shops or grocery shops in the neighbourhood. I bought mine from the neighbourhood grocery shop. I mix with white rice to cook in normal rice cooker, the usual way, no extra step. Taste good (at least no one has complained anything ;p)

Hi Shurley197323,

We only eat brown rice at home. I buy the NTUC housebrand. No need to soak overnight. Through trial and error, I found out that you need to double or triple the amt of water used for the amt of rice being cooked. I use 2 and a half or 3 cups of water for 1 cup of rice, depending on how soft I want the rice to be. I do not add oil or salt :D

My kid's PD told me that brown rice causes phlegm, thereafter, I stop giving it to them, and their phlegm problem actually improve.

For partents who are giving brown rice to their kids, please take note.
