I taught kids to sit on toilet bowl with child toilet seat when they were about 6 months old...bought those cute seats to entice them to sit down...just flush and wash bums.

i train her when she's 17-18 months. what i do is every now and then ask her if she wants to go toilet, remove her pampers then seat her on the toilet bowl. and u just monitor her, if she pees then tell her if she wants to pee have to go toilet. until i think she is ready, i will remove pampers for few hours and try out. must be patient and supportive cos sometimes children dont have the bowel control yet. the best is if your girl always pee/poop at a certain timing, then u know when to bring her to toilet.

when I let daughter wear cloth diapers or undies at home, we stayed away from the carpet and brought her to the loo every 30 min...that was the stage we stayed at home often because going out would be tough if we had to bring her to the loo every now and then.

When I potty trained my boy, we used diapers when we took him out.. But at home he was diaper free when he was awake.. Put diapers on when he was napping/sleeping.. Then eventually one day he stopped peeing and pooing in his diapers and was willing to go diaper free even when we go out.. We brought spare clothes in case of accidents..

Dun worry.. Every child is different.. I have seen kids wearing diapers until they are about 4 years old.. So it isn't too late..

My boys were trained to go w/o diapers during the day when they started walking.

I think it is good to start young when the kid is still "gong gong".

Resistance level increases as the kid realises the convenience of wearing diapers.

Like Janet, we seldom went out during the training days. We also set a time to train the bowel movement.

When training to go w/o diapers at night, we set an alarm clock to get up to bring the child to pee in the toilet. We bou a little Ikea stool for him to stand on so as to reach the toilet bowl.

once the child's neck is firm, it's possible to get him/her to sit on kids' seat put on top of our toilet. remember getting son's seat from mothercare...back then, there wasn't cute designs like now with side handles to hold on.

when child starts taking semi-solids, the poo starts to smell.
fortunately we didn't go out often, so diaper-free days were much easier.
still have pics of my kids sitting on the toilet bowl when they were 3 or 4
