My girl is getting self conscious about her slightly protruding teeth. I am wondering how much braces would cost to help align it. Any ideas?

thot of bringing her to a dentist to check.

Think the prices actually varies. Found this site where there is some pricing information. It cost well about $1000. http://www.flowerpod.com.sg/forums/lofi ... 35629.html

Oops, yes typo  But if you just get those metal braces, that does not look too nice, it will cost below 2k. I suppose you don't need those that are transparent or those that are not visible, those cost a bomb

Unless you want her to grow up blaming you for not treating her protruding teeth early so that she had to wear them during her teenage or adult years (the horror, the horror...), better fork out the money and do it early. Are these still her milk teeth?

She is P4, so no longer her milk teeth. But 5K is a hefty sum. I need to figure out which bank to rob first...

On the bright side, maybe you can use this as a example of why she should become a dentist when she grow up :)

Note also that sometimes after removing the (ugly) braces, your child may still have to wear retainers that are removed when they have to eat/drink, etc. These are to ensure that the adjustment is permanent; that the teeth will not revert to original positions after removing the braces. The retainers are not permanent; they will be removed maybe after some months to a year, when the dental professional says ok.

ADD: Retainers may restrict mouth movement and thus result in them being unable to pronounce certain words properly.

I only put on braces at the matured age of 24 yo.

Nah, no need parents to pay lah, can do your braces even in 20s or 30s. Get those white colour type of braces, not obvious, can't even detect braces from close shot photos

Retainer isn't for life. My orthodontist said only need to wear at bedtime for a duration of 2 years after you removed your braces

Other than advised by the orthodontist, my friend who supplies dental materials to dental clinics also told me the same thing (she had her bracers many years ago and didn't put on retainer and now her teeth move again and regretted not heeding advice and so she specifically told me "cannot be lazy, must follow orthodontist's advice!")
Yes, retainer is for life.I have been wearing it since 1997 every night.
