Any recommendation for dermatologist for teen acne?

hi all

Does anyone have any recommendations for a qualified dermatologist to treat teenage acne? My son is turning 15 and has acne that constantly flares up. Hope to treat it before it becomes a persistent problem and leaves scarring. Over the counter products seem to have limited effect.

Thanks!

Hi, you can try Dr Steven Ang at Redhill. https://stevenaesthetics.com My ex-colleagues and I go to him for our skin probs. Price is affordable too. He has two outlets but I go to the one at Redhill. He's a GP and dermatologist

You can consider Niks Maple Clinic. Dr Ong is very experienced in dealing with acne problem and her charges are reasonable too. Do check which outlet and the timing she will be available at the different branch. The clinic doesn't accept call in, be early to get the walk in consultations.

These are the timings she's available at the Tampines branch.

Mon 830 - 1230, 2 - 4:30, 7 - 9 ( suggest queuing 45 min to 1 hour before the respective opening hours)
Sat 830 - 1230

This is the number for the Tampines branch. 6783 9038
825, Tampines St 81, #01-64

Can consider going to National Skin Centre. It worked for dd1. Took about 6 months for the skin to clear.

Had brought her to Dr Ong from Niks Maple Clinic at Tampines. That was about 2-3 years back. Not sure how the situation is like now but back then, the queue was horrendously and ridiculously long. I recalled being at the clinic at about 8+am and only got to see the doctor past 3pm. It was really really ridiculous.

We went back for another visit but I realised that the time and wait was not worth it. Too much waiting and very unproductive. One is only given 5-10 mins consultation time, if take longer, every 5 min is chargeable. My nephew went to Niks Maple and it worked for him. Didn't see the same positive effect on my girl.

In the end, decided to stop going there. Went to NSC instead and found the service and treatment much better.

Thanks all for the recommendations. Bedok is kind of far from where we live - we live in the northern part of SG.

For NSC - do you see a particular doctor? Are the wait times long?

Before going to a dermatologist, have you been to your family doctor? I would think that teenage acne is something fairly common and a GP is like to be able to give you something more effective than OTC stuff. It will save time and costs too.

No, didn't cross my mind to see the GP. Our GP is one of those old-school types, and doesn't have any additional dermatology qualifications etc. Will have to give him a call and see if he can help. Thanks!

Acne has been around for many years! My schoolfriend's father (a GP) treated her acne and several other friends' acne, and that was in the 80s!

Dermatology is good biz for GPs. I know of 2 GPs who have decided to spend more time treating skin problems than medical.

Probably coz it's low risk vs treating other medical conditions. Also, if tx doesn't work, can always blame customers for their poor lifestyle or diet.
