diabetes is uncurable. so there is a need to make sure we cut down on sugar.

MOE should ban all schools from selling sugary drinks and provide more water coolers around the compound.

I thought cancer is serious than diabetes?

Anyway, I try to cut down on soft drinks because they are so tempting during hot days

I eat mixed rice ie mix white with brown rice though I love white rice

Schools already don't sell the highest-sugar soft and fruit drinks. Even for the local drinks and teas, I hope they will only stock the lower-sugar varieties in future, or even better, just provide the lower-sugar sport drinks. I think parents should take the lead in not allowing a sweet drinks habit to form in the first place (and giving kids less pocket money if necessary). If there is no demand for the sweet drinks, the vendors won't bother to stock them.

I just saw my dentist - she's hopeful that dental health will improve too!

diabetes can lead to amputations of limbs.

i cut down on soft drinks too...but on hot days, it's hard to say no to kickapoo. as for rice, i mix brown and white since son has a huge appetite.

As long as they don't drink several cups a day, 1 cup a day for growing and active kids is fine. It also depends on what other sugary things they may consume in the course of the day; if they don't eat much sweet stuff, then the juice really won't be a problem. There isn't anything inherently bad about sugar; it's the quantity that is the problem.

One thing PM didn't mention which I believe also leads to people eating too much and too unhealthily is the increase of mobile apps for home delivery! It's too easy to pick only what you like, order more to make the delivery charge "worthwhile", try lots of new foods.... You don't even have to walk anywhere to get it!

All chronic illnesses are serious in their own way, I guess. I suppose diabetes has been chosen because it affects so many people, is something that we can all do something about, and the cause and effect are clearer. Not so straightforward with cancer.

My family has switched to mixed brown and white rice too, although I was unwilling earlier. However, my husband and I are battling weight gain and we finally decided to start mixing a few months ago (along with other changes in diet and increased exercise for me). We are at 25% brown rice, but have decided to increase to 50%. Our girls are OK with it, and it's good for them to build this habit early.

the brown rice i get is not brown in colour but off white...when mixed with white rice, we tend to eat lesser rice but feel fuller.

i buy yuzu and momo peach but when i drink, it is diluted with 3/4 plain water. sometimes drinking plain water the whole day makes the tongue tasteless.
