Anyone knows of cases where a full body bone scan showing widespread metastases turn out to be false alarm. While I know that raised tumour marker leveles need not mean cancer, but what about bone scans...Are mistakes possible with such scans?

To my experience while taking care my mother in law years ago, bone scan for cancer is the final examination for how much of cancer metastases had spread. BUT the scan had to use a kind nuclear substance and in my country, only qualified army doctor and army hospital could do this kind of scanning. I do not very sure about it in Singapore :?

It's different with MRI as she'd gone through MRI as well. Hope this help :D

She'd done a bone scan after doc injected some tracer chemical (not sure if this is the radioactive substance), next up is ct scan and bone biopsy, if needed.

so if a bone scan report says widespread metastases, can it be wrong?
