Child is too tall

First, I had a boy who was too skinny, borderine underweight.

Now, i have a toddler, approaching 4, perpetually way above the charts in height. And that makes me concerned.

She is 3yrs 10m, 109cm tall. She wears 5 yr olds’ clothing and towers over her N1 and N2 friends. I’m concerned with this over-growth... should I be? Or is this now common?

Please share your child’s routine or diet? I’m dying to get my girl to grow tall.

Are you or your husband tall? It's probably in the genes. If you're concerned, see a doctor.

Child will be referred to HPB at primary school level..if considered 'out of range'. There the doc will ask for height of parents and see if the child height is within the range. Should be yearly follow up. Doc will then give estimate of potential height which I think quite accurate.

That’s is correct.

Pre-primary, you can talk to your pediatrician if you have a concern. The doctor can do a referral to KKH if necessary.

Both my husband and i have a child with our ex-spouses before I had this girl. And both of them were lying within the percentiles. My husband is 1.78m, although he says he was a shortie till he shot up in secondary school. I was already my current height at 13 yrs old, but then again, I had scoliosis fusion surgery so I wouldn’t know how much more I would have grown. She has always been on the higher range of the percentiles for both height and weight when she was a baby, and gradually overshooting the height ranges, and she’s basically an almost 4 yr old in a 5-6 yr old body.

She has no special herbs or diet, very active and she wasn’t born big, in fact, at 38 weeks, 2.9kg only. I’m worried if she will have early puberty or some growth issue.

I’m not sure if her school has yearly checks, but I’m not getting any feedback yet, so I guess not. We saw her PD for annual growth checks till this year where she said it’s not necessary to see her anymore, but other than saying “you’re blessed”, she doesn’t comment much on my girl’s growth - also because my PD has a child who is on the opposite end of the charts.

I can find tonnes of information on kids who are too short or too small, but nothing much on too tall; other than gigantism, which scares the hell outta me.

I think you may want to consult a doctor again. Perhaps not the same PD if you feel she didn't take you seriously. If there are tall-ish genes in the family, it could happen that they just expressed themselves in this way in 1 child, and not the others. But to set your mind at rest, or to find out if there is something that needs to be done, see another doctor.

Heard of age of bone ie something like check the bone for the 'actual' age something like that. I used to worry too but not anymore coz accepted or don't see it as unusual now ba..I find some families can have tallest and shortest genes at siblings level. I somehow notice the weight at birth doesn't tell as much as the bone structure of the child. Some kids can have quite obvious structures when I think back now.

Oh dear... really sounds like this isn’t common at all. Getting nervous about this. Then now hard to see doctor with all the restrictions going on
