Reverse sliding-scale Share Bonus Award

Postby ChiefKiasu » Tue Nov 02, 2010 7:23 pm

For the upcoming Auctions, we are thinking of doing a reverse sliding scale for the Share Bonus Award. We will order all the qualifying bidders in reverse order of the amount of KPs in their accounts.
Eg. If A, B, C are the bidders that qualify, and A has 1000KPs, B has 2000KPs, and C has 3000KPs, then
A will get 3000/(1000+2000+3000) = 50% of the spoils
B will get 2000/(1000+2000+3000) = 33% of the spoils
C will get 1000/(1000+2000+3000) = 16% of the spoils

Another way could be the binary approach, ie. the person with the lowest KPs will get 50%, followed by the next who will get 25%, and then 12.5% and so on.

The intent is to allow members with a lower amount of KPs to benefit more from the Share Bonus Award so that they have a better chance to win in subsequent Auctions.

Since KiasuParents.com is a democratic community, we would like to solicit feedback on this new arrangement, or suggestions to further fine-tune this. Please help us by participating in the Poll above.

Wow election year budget?

Beside doing this, How about give out only 50% of the highest bid to qualified bidders and remove the other 50% from circulation? Too much ks points floating among a small number of members.

:D

There are other ways to reduce circulation, eg. impose a maximum cap of 100,000 on KPs :) . It is a good idea though, to cap the share bonus at a % of the winnings, although we thought it might be less fun for the players.

Chief,
Just wondering if you are feeling that any of our past winners are not deserving of the prizes that they won via auctions.... If not, why the need to change the current system?
The recent change in rulings allowing share bonuses of very inflated winning bid has already seen lesser well-off members getting a fairly sizable increase in points and the well-off paris and donald been wipe-clean in one night.

To Quote : We will order all the qualifying bidders in reverse order of the amount of KPs in their accounts.

Are you going to stop me from siphoning out my points to another account to qualify for the biggest slice of the shared winnings?

Nah... it's just that we are changing from a democratic community to a more communist one, where everyone has the same number of KPs

As I've said, the intent is really to pan-chance the newbies, and even the veterans who emptied their war chest in winning some of the Auctions can benefit from this scheme. It is also not a sustainable source of KPs - kind of like winning the lottery... those with a continuous "income" of KPs by posting interesting articles are really the ones to beat in any Auction.

Chief, just thinking out loud. Please do not be offended.

Won't that discourage them from sharing and contributing to KSP.com? It sounds like a "free-rider" to me.

Well, they had their turn. They won the auction, and had their dream product. Time to give others a chance.

Yes, these are indeed the considerations against implementing such a scheme. That's why we are seeking opinions from the community before we decide to implement this scheme.

In the same vein as your argument, even having the Share Bonus Award already runs against the general principle that members should earn points through their contributions. Should we discard the scheme as well?

I think that Chief is right, as the first place people don't get any "extras" for giving up more of their KSPoints to get the award........
