KS Parents' Love Story

Postby winth » Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:14 am

Hi, to tell you the truth, this is the first ever forum I've visited almost daily. And after exchanging views with caring and kiasu parents here, it is very interesting to notice some 'die-hard' fans here too.

In order to get to know each other better, how about sharing your romance story about your spouse? It'll be fun to know how you guys met and finally forming your very own family.

I've noticed jedamum keeps saying how she makes her husband 'notice' her in order to grow her 'clan', and how sashimi and schellen can even 'flirt' on public forum. And the all-famous buds, what's your love story? It'll be interesting too to hear about chiefKS' love story. Let's not forget our very helpful mincy and all the nice nice forummers here. It's funny but very precious to know such wonderful people around.

DH and I have always wondered if our love encounter is one of the most boring and 老掉牙type. But after marrying each other for 8 years, we still talk about our romance and how we first met. Still funny when we talk about it. Guess that's how we keep the love alive - talking about the sweet things that mattered most.

Care to share?

Got meh? :? Good! sashimi lamented that I don't flirt with him anymore after marriage. So this is proof that I still do. :P

Also, kena "arrow" already (like jedamum) so cannot siam.

Our story also not a romantic one. We met in orchestra CCA in NUS. He was one year my junior since he just came out of NS. He actually noticed my cousin first since she's very tall and sat in front of him. (Him clarinet, her flute) I played percussion so I was in a corner far back. He's glad he didn't choose her in the end though he likes to pretend that he made the wrong choice from time to time. (He knows I see through his lie anyway.)

I can't remember why he decided to ask me to a concert with his friends (he said it's normal of him to do so to spread love of music). We started talking on the phone. He found out I had a boyfriend but eventually, I broke off with my then boyfriend. He thinks it's cos of him but....heh, it's not lah, really. I just felt that I was more comfortable with my boyfriend as a good friend or even a good bro/sis relationship so I decided to end it to prevent further pain in future.

It was exam time so good time for bonding. Haha. We talked a lot and exchanged letters. We went out some more and after a few months, we started dating seriously.

Before we graduated, we already went through many ups and downs, highs and lows in our relationship (like old married couple) so we knew that we were going to marry each other, just had to wait to get a stable job first.

I grad first and he did Honours so when he finally got a stable income, we went to ROM. This Dec will be our 11th wedding anniversary but it'll be us being together for 15 years already. Almost half my life! :!:

So that's it. The end. See very boring, right?

Ours is probably a case of boring story. But since it's friday and I need a break from brain bogging work ...

We met at work. I was 21 yrs old and into my 2nd job in accounts, seeing an ex-colleague who is 12 yrs my senior whom I met while working in a bank at that time. We were less than 1 yr in the relationship and I think we had applied for flats (given his age and how long it take to get a flat during that era).

It was his 2nd job too and fresh from uni. He is single, 4 yrs my senior and being a fun age, I wanted to pair him up with the single girls in the office. (plenty since it's accounts line). So we had lots of outing together as a group. Instead of getting him pair up with another girl, we ended up together. We are always making fun of each other eg. sticking a post it tag on the back and the person walk around the office the entirely day! I think he was mesmerized by my voice as I recall when I was singing "Just when I needed you most" (not meant for him) in the karaoke, he was looking at me and I happen to catch that which left me lost over the weekends particularly when I had a bf at that time. Also our horoscope matched perfectly. He is a dog gemini while I am a tiger libra.

I remember our first date was after our overtime in office on sat. A single innocent colleague tag along as I was probably unsure and worst be seen with him alone. Our first show was some RA show at Chinatown cinema. Dun ask me why... it happened because we were always joking abt it and it's call some 7 days 7 nites. That nite, he sent me home though he could have taken the MRT and he asked me to be his girlfriend.

It was not entirely exciting because I cannot 2 time. Just before we were together, I just got jilted and I totally understand that kind of feeling. It's just not fair. On top of that, there was the HDB application. I found some courage to tell my then bf with some lame excuse that I want to further my studies and I want to focus on that. I went ahead to cancel the HDB application at my end as I didn't want that to be an issue later on. HDB was very efficient in handling that as they sent him a letter to notify him. He felt that it's becoz of his work that he neglected me and was trying to woo me back but sometimes affairs of the heart is not so easily explained. He also spoke to my mum abt it and told my mum I am seeing my hubby as I was always talking abt my hubby infront of him. My mum was aware of all but pretended she didn't. But I am glad he was gentleman enough and left me alone except he continues to send me cards/ flowers during valentine etc.. At that age, he is probably mature.

Given that it's a office romance, there was the fun moments. Eg. He gave me 31 roses that was sent to the office. Lots of speculation from onlookers esp when they dunno we are an item. eg. does it mean he is gg to marry you when he is 31 yrs old,etc... But it was actually our 31 days together. Well... such flower sending activity drop to once a yr after marriage and to none today  I recall on 1 valentine day, I actually rec'd 3 bouquets of flowers (from hubby, ex bf and a coursemate as a joking condition because we (another girlfriend and I) helped him with his assignment.). That sure invited alot of attn in the office.

It wasn't easy as at that point, I wasn't a grad. I recall the 1st few time I went to his place, his father would sit facing me and look at me from hd to toe!!!! It was really drama. I had a feeling that he disapproved of us (which is confirmed by my bil few yrs ago) as his father strongly advocate LKY's thinking. A grad must marry a grad. I request to break off several times but he insisted. He didn't tell me all these that's happening at home. I heard from bil that my hubby insisted on being with me and his mother eventually asked his father to relent. In the meantime, I went on to do my part time degree and eventually another professional paper not for him but myself. He was very supportive.

On top of that, he is the only son with 4 sisters. Since young, he has been brainwashed to stay with parents. I am the only child. It was intimidating for me to think of staying with in laws. Then in 1997, my fil has always been shopping for a condo and at that yr, he bought a condo with my hubby's name. It was in the name of helping his son but my mum and I felt, it was a tactic to trap his son. So it wasn't possible for us to apply for a HDB flat at all. My hubby till date still regret not being able to earn the sales of 1st flat from govt.

Maybe I am the pretty easy going and bochap type, I survived all these. We got married in 1999 after 4 yrs of courtship. It was his parents who asked us to settle down fast. I was 25 then and he 29. Though he is not as romantic as before but he always say that I am his "cash cow" and he put the right bet on me.

Me too...me too. Totally addicted to it.

To start the ball rolling, heres our love story, the long version:

Late 1998, came to notice there was this new postions for telemarketers for call centre, was wondering what this call cantre about? Called up and went down for interview, started work next day.

During training, this black guy came in and introduce himself as the centre manager and started training. After the 1st week, I went on leave, cos my grandfather passed away. When i went back to work, he came to chat me up, me being the no-nonsense type and was thinking what was his intention, so told him that i came to work, not make friends. So happen that he stayed within walking distance from me and he would offered to walk me home after work, cos work ended around 10.30 and would reach home around 11.30. Told him that S'pore is a safe country and i can take care of myself.

After a couple of weeks, we started chatting, found out that he came to S'pore b'cos of his gf (who came here for work and he decide to follow), i was thinking "wow, never met a man who is willing to uproot and give up his house/work/friends to follow his heart, lucky gf". After a few months, i left the job (too much pressure for a part-time position).

I would bump into him time to time when i went for my walks and him walking his dog. Then found out that he was hving problems wif g/f, she was straying. Few months later, they had a big fight and he walked out. I felt a little sorry for him , thinking what a b**** of a gf to do that to someone who moved to other half of the world for you. At the same time, theres always 2 sides to a story, later got to hear from their friend that she wanted an open relationship, but he refused.

Since he moved, kinda lost contact. By chance met him again and started hanging out with his group. Thats when we actually started dating. Serious was when he entrusted me with his dog(whom he loves more than himself) when he went home for family reunion X'mas 1999. In 2001 (rite b4 Sep 11) i went visit his brother/sisters in US. Attended his bro's wedding in 2002 and met almost the entire clan (was most intimidating situation in my life). Just celebrated 5th wedding anniversary in 8th Feb.

wah..... most of you met 'the one' so early in life. Me only met him in late 20s and somemore took so long to decide to settle down, so now son only 2.5 yo and me late 30s, DH over 40 liao.....

can understand...every chinese new year must meet my dh's entire clan.... stress...and never seems to be able to register their names...

His family has a family tree and site to keep everyone who are scattered all over the places (we being the furthest) updated of family members and events. Its really great way to keep in touch, or else we would be spending $$$$$ on phone bills and suffering from lack of sleep/eye bags due to 12-16 hrs time difference. So each time we travel back for reunion, i will hv to log on and update myself with all the going ons (like doing homework/project). B'cos we are the furthest away and unable to meet up with them as often, we always get the most attention when we visit. They are also very easy going and i was accepted into the family with open arms and lots of kisses.
