You know what after talking about it here..i realised something..i have been trying to be polite always say so smart so good yours .. and 'bian' ours..

This is very Asian. My parents, especially my father, did this to my brother and I a lot, even though we were quite high achievers. I didn't like it and used to feel "how much better can I be?" and it affecte my self-esteem when I was younger. My husband and I agreed we would not do it to our kids. So when people praise our kids, we just say 'thank you' and refuse to deny it. I also won't praise their kids unless I have genuine praise, and I won't do it if I know they are fishing for praise.

Since I have a not so strong student and a high achiever, I also make a point to praise both of them for effort, for doing better than before, etc, but we do it at home. Objectively, it can seem rather unfair - when my older girl got 2 B's at A level, we were rejoicing with her and really over the moon; when the younger one got many As, we were happy, but not as excited as over her sister's results the year before. But they both understood our reactions.

I seldom praise them..dh asks me to give them more encouragement. The younger one like to tease the elder weaker subject. The elder one will say 来kua我吧 then I will start doing it. The usual reaction will be mommy, can make it more real. So that is in joking manner too.

I try to make my own cookies. May not look atas but I know I use good butter & not margarine or sth else like “Butler” which Phoon Huat carries at cheaper price but not what I’ll feed my family or frds. Tmr will be a busy day. Today relax with my herb garden.

Cashier auntie say just started today..yesterday still full price ..I told her I m lucky haha. The ones sold at bakery shop also dropped price already. But coz I m late so not much varieties le.

Btw if targeting ntuc..not sure if they close earlier tomorrow or not . Better check.

I bought Kueh Bankit for my children and my helper chose pineapple tarts. One auntie was complaining that she bought Almond Crisp at $14+ last week and today become buy 1 get 1 free! She lost $7, lol. She also complained that she bought New Moon Abalone at $32+ earlier and today, price dropped to $26+.

Btw, I opened and tried the Kueh Bankit. It’s awful…
