buying a luxury watch for DH

Postby karenmok » Sun Aug 25, 2013 11:37 pm

Hi,
I am thinking of buying a gift of a luxury watch for DH but am puzzled by range of choice and giddy by the prices.
Can someone advise:
1. What is the method to choose a luxury watch? There are so many brands and models. Even if I know which features DH likes, the range is still wide.
2. Should I settle for a brand new watch or a pre-owned one? DH cannot tell the difference and will be happy either way.
Any other suggestions, please.
Karen

Hi Karenmok,
1. All depend on your husband's preference. for middle range of price, can go for
Tag Heuer for a sporty design. I personally like Maurice Lacroix for the classic design

2.Thats depend on what reason you are buying as a gift for your DH.
If for birthday or wedding anniversary, or that's his first luxury watch, of cause get
a brand new watch.

Agreed.

Also depends on your budget. The best watches are Rolex. There are different series and Rolex has resale value. It's not just a watch, it can also be an investment

If your DH is someone who is financially prudent, buying something too expensive might be a bummer.

If you want him to wear the watch you bough for him, Some answers you need before buying him a watch are,

1. What kind of events does he frequent ? (Social, affluent etc)
2. Is he a sporty person?
3. Occupation
4. Personality and taste

You wouldn't want to buy him an Omega De Ville dress watch when he is a sporty person.

Additionally you can always fall back on the current watch he is wearing? Does he prefer a leather or metal band?

And if you are intending to buy something more than $10,000 from reputable watch houses, always ask for a discount. You will get it most of the time.

I hope that helps!

I would go for Rolex, they have great watches and their pieces are timeless. I really like Submariner Rolex like the one here http://www.chrono24.sg/rolex/index.htm, it looks very stylish on a guy. Look on the internet, there are lots of different prices..I'd say pick the watch you want to buy first and then find it for a reasonable price!

Actually if you are going to spend a bomb on the watch, better to bring him to select personally .....

When I wanted a watch as a gift, I would prefer I choose it myself ..
Hubby brought me along to select my watch & it's fun to go thru the process together
