Any psychologist to recommend?

Is there any government subsidised psychologist that we could seek?

Hi Bluegin, I'm not sure if you have found a psychologist for your child by now.

It depends on what type of psychologists you are after. We have Clinical Psychologists with the hospitals. MOE has Educational Psychologists if you think your child has a learning disorder.

The public child psychologists are with Child Guidance Clinic (CGC), the outpatient arm of Institute of Mental Health.

If your child is preschool age, go to Department of Child Development at KKH.

Primary and secondary schools have counsellors and special needs officers and they can give directions on specialist help based on your child's needs and your location.

The hospital psychologists generally charge subsidised rates if you are referred from a Polyclinic. If you book an appointment with them directly, you pay the private rates. CGC used to accept referrals from schools for subsidised rates, but I'm not sure if they still do that.

For hospitals, you generally see a medical doctor first before you get referred on to a psychologist. They can be child psychiatrists at CGC and developmental paediatricians at KKH DCD.

Hope this helps.

yes...via polyclinic. under subsidised way...but be prepared to wait.

under 7 years old, you will be referred to KK.

i waited 3 hours at cck polyclinic to see the doctor there for a letter.
did tell the doctor to help me expedite because daughter needed to see a psychologist for her learning disability. now seeing a doctor at NUH child development clinic.

my advice...don't wait any further...there is a long wait list.
when my daughter was in p1/2, the school counsellor assessed her but said my daughter wasn't serious enough...last year in p3, she still said the same :faint: language impairment is a learning disability.
even after getting an appointment date to see the psychologist at NUH, we were still on wait list to see the speech therapist for an assessment.

please don't wait...if you suspect your child to be having some difficulty, have him/her tested...even if result turns out ok, at least you have a peace of mind.

go to the polyclinic...it's much cheaper.
daughter was seen by a psychologist at bukit Batok polyclinic...the wait is much shorter.
