Calling Ice-Cream Lovers - One-Scoop Ice-cream

Postby Guest » Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:55 pm

One of the pleasures I consider simple is eating ice-cream with my child. We take great delight in buying ice-cream and eat as we walk around. Recently, I am only beginning to notice that ice-creams can be really expensive business, some equivalent to a meal in the food court. Let's share the bench-mark of a ONE-SCOOP ice-cream than we know how much we have progressed... I like to use ice-cream to tell my child about past and present....

The ice-cream I used to eat when I was young was $0.10 and $0.20. A $0.50 ice-cream was a luxury.

Let me start and correct me if I remember the prices wrongly....
Regular One-Scoop Cone/Cup....(without toppings)

1. Traditional ice-cream man................$1.00
2. Bens and Jerry................................$6.20??
3. Haagan Das....................................$5.70
4. Gelatino..........................................$??
5. Mini Melts........................................$2.50
6. Cornetto.........................................$2.60 (this surprised me!)
7. Udders (classic)...............................$3.70
8. Udders(premium).............................$4.??
9. Udders(connoisseur).........................$5.??
10. Andersons......................................$4.??
11. Swenson scoop...............................$??
12. Yami Yogurt....................................$4.60?
13. Movenpick......................................$??
14. Mac cone........................................$0.50
15. Scoopz...........................................$2.90
16. Forget brand (greentea Japanese icecream at Bugis).....$3+

Oh yes! That is a good one...the best value for money ice cream.
Actually putting this together also allows me to see which ice-cream is most value for money too.

Mac is very smart, they know their core business is not ice-cream but it can draw customers to Mac by keeping the price low. Thanks cmm!

But then you see, the premium ice cream (like Haegen Dazs, B&J or even the local Udders or Daily Scoop etc) uses premium ingredients, or in Haegen Dazs or imported ones, you're paying for premium ingredients PLUS importing costs. If comparing the ice cream man's potong ice cream, I think the price increase is probably relative to the increase in living costs in general?

There's a Scoopz at Jurong Point, or at least there was when I use to live around there a couple of years back.

Pretty decent but not the rich and dense type. The fruity ones are refreshing.
