Postby simplejan » Thu Jul 08, 2010 4:47 pm

hi all parents,

i'm quite concerned about my child who just turned 5. Recently, she was down with rashes and have been vomiting...the doctor told my mom that she's allergic to most vegs and gave us a list.

is this possible? anyone have similar experiences? pls share

Had a friend who was allergic to veg too. Specifically the chlorophyll in the veg. So she eats mainly white veg like cabbage, wong bok, cauliflower.

Was the rashes and vomitting an isolated incident or had it happened before? You DD was exposed to some veg b4 right? Did she not have any reaction in the past? Lastly, it is important to know what exactly she is allergic to instead of basic generic veg as there are many other foods that may have these properties.

Did the doc do an allergy test to confirm the rashes/vomitting were indeed caused by eating vegs?

Hi Hi, My boys have multiple food allergies too, do ask if u have any questions :) Did the doctor explain to you how he arrived at the diagnosis?

It is possible for a child to 'suddenly' develop an allergy to something they have been eating all the while. SOmetimes it is because they can only take small quantities of the food, at very long intervals. My son has been having eggs every 3 days when he was a baby, and he suddenly developed allergy to eggs when he was 2 years old.

But to find out the cause of the allergy, u have to go through testing. Even a skin prick test is not fool-proof. My own doctor who has allergies in the family also recommend that skin prick test is not the best option. U can try the food elimination method.

It's good to find the root cause of the allergy, so that u can help your child manage it. :D
