Tried using minced meat readily bought from supermarket but results were unsatisfactory. Did the fault lie with the meat processing or was it the fire control. Any tips are welcomed as my family really loves this simple dish. Thks.

i know what u mean, abt being unsatisfactory.......
the minced pork from supermarket, esp NTXX is very lousy (fr australia)
the pork is "overly minced", texture is not right,
after steaming, is kinda of "mee mee", right??

either u have to buy the pork (i used shoulder butt cut) N minced yrself....
or i suggest u buy the minced pork fr Sheng Siong.....(pork fr indonesia), better texture......

marinate with some soya sauce, pepper and some corn flour
add some chopped "tung Cai" will enhance the taste of the steam minced pork......
and remember not to overcook it
my hub loves this dish very much...... :D

Hey,

That day I tried mixing with 1 tube egg tofu and 1 beaten egg with the marinated mincemeat and steam...nice...
Good esp for kids whom don't like tofu...

and for an unhealthy version, you can add in 1 salted egg in addition to the usual seasonings +egg.

Good for a once-in-a-blue-moon treat

YES, I do it like hapydino except I add minced prawns and 1 egg, really delicious plus there's sauce for the children to drizzle on their rice. The whole family loves it.

my daughter's nanny told me my daughter loves a dish..

egg tofu (tube) cut into round round pieces, place on a dish.. pour white white over it and steam everything..

i forgot to ask her what she do to the egg yolk though..

more like fire control for me

yes, add slices of salted fish on top, and mix with the rest evenly : minced pork, egg, finely threaded old ginger, chopped garlic, and sprinkle some white pepper powder

don't have to eat the salted fish though

I love steam minced pork too, with tung chai or salted fish with garlic, but i never seemed to control the cooking time, always turned out hard, care to share the trick?

Recently saw a minced pork recipe on the web, tried it and it's really delicious.

Sharing it with mums here, ur kids will love it.

Fried pumpkin and minced pork cakes

Ingredients (serves 2-3)

- 100-150g ground pork

- 1 tbs fish sauce

- 1/4 tsp ground pepper

- 1 shallot, finely chopped

- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

- 300g pumpkin, peeled and grated

- 2 tbs plain flour

- breadcrumb, as needed

- vegetable oil, to fry

Cooking:

- Combine the pork with fish sauce, pepper, shallot and garlic. Add the grated pumpkin and mix well.

- Shape the pumpkin and pork mixture into oval or round flat pieces. Roll over a dish of breadcrumb to coat evenly.

- Deep fry the pumpkin cakes until they are golden brown.

- Serve with mayonnaise or sweet chili sauce.
