Yummy Yogurt (The Goodness of Yogurt)

Postby autumnbronze » Wed Sep 29, 2010 3:35 pm

Hello all,

I was at NTUC doing my weekly grocery shopping and came across these two different types of yogurt:

1) Farmer's Union European style natural yogurt

2) Farmer's style Greek style natural yogurt

Can someone enlighten me whats the difference between the two??

AB,

Dunno the diff.

But if you do go for the plain type, you could make it at home.

Very easy to do.

Yes it's true.
Like most things homemade, yogurt you make yourself is just better:
It tastes better.
It's better for you (no preservatives, sugar or chemicals added).
It's less expensive.
There's no packaging waste.

My mommy makes her own.
I'm too lazy, so she makes an extra batch for me when she makes her own.

Absolutely

And it is not as diff as shown . Maybe it is more for cooler places where it takes time to set, need to be more specificabt temps

1.Heat milk in microwave till quite hot
(rough guide - for 200 ml milk in a cup for about 1 min on high)
2.Stir well and set aside to cool till warm to touch the container.( abt 35 degree C)

3. Add in 1 tea spoonful existing natural yogurt.
4. Set aside for 6-8 hrs.
5. Check if fully set.Chill in refrigerator.

And u are ready

How do I like my yogurt? Not in my mouth. I dunno why... just cannot tahan the taste of yogurt. I guess I'm naturally full of bad bacterial, so none of the good bacterial for me, thank you.

Hi mummyjoyce,

Thanks for the links :hugs:

So this is what I have concluded after reading the links, apart from the differences in the method that they are made and the good 'bacteria' they contain:

Greek yogurt

- more superior in taste

- creamier than European

- More fattening

- sweeter, less tangier than European

- could be made with goat's milk

- better for dips

Anyone tried using Greek yogurt instead of the normal yogurt as salad dressing, as dips or as an ingredient in cooking??

Any noticeable difference??

For me, I tend to add a little mayonnaise when the recipe calls for normal yogurt in my potato salad because yes, it does taste a tad tangy.
