1) Do u also consume the 'water' (or soup) together with the abalone?

2) Do u wash the luncheon meat before u eat or fry?

3) Can unfinished rice be fried the next day for children ?

Anybody is welcomed to answer the above questions, and post anything here if u have any................

Luncheon meat must wash before cooking? I just slice it straight from the tin and fry.

Fried rice tastes better with overnight rice.

Hi jtoh
That what my friend said, she feels it's best to wash before cooking to get rid of the can's smell, but I also don't wash, I sliced thinly the outer layer to discard before eating.....if after washed cannot keep in fridge too long.....
Overnight rice for frying is good, but good for children? some said not good for children 'cos will have a lot of 'wind' in the stomach.......

I haven't heard of the wind in the stomach theory. I suppose if they've been exposed to it from young they won't have problems. :D

leftover food if properly stored could be eaten the next day. of course, you must also make sure the food is properly heat up before eating immediately.

it is better not to let the kids especially under 5 eat leftover food in case of food poisoning etc. so if possible try to gauge the amount of food your family could possibly finish that night and cook that amount.

the water in the abalone can could be use as a stock. but usually we have it steamboat style so with water added, it is not so concentrated or salty.

I don't wash luncheon meat but I buy the USA made ones and not the Made in China ones. My fave brand is Bestal. It tastes exactly the same as Maling and it's not oily at all.

Leftover rice can be used but make sure it's not left outside for too many hours before you put in the refrigerator. Bacteria grows very fast on rice especially.

Abalone brine is tasty but contains a lot of salt. You can use some, mixed with water, add some cornflour solution and a drop of dark soy for colour and it becomes a gravy for the sliced abalone. Serve over boiled phuay leng (China spinach). Add some fried garlic slices and it is very yummy.
