Talk about coating but pan .. is it better to buy a stainless steel one like just saw the Kitchenaid stainless steel pan (no non stick mentioned), I tempted to try though I have one stainless steel wok which I find it 'sticking' so kept it in cabinet.. would this one be better..coz over time there would still be coating got exposed due to scratch
As I mentioned earlier, easy washing is a high priority for me. So I wouldn't go for something that sticks no matter how much "better" it's supposed to be, unless it's found that the non-stick ones are really bad for you. My time and energy are better spent on other things. I have decided to manage the risk by replacing when it starts peeling, but since I started washing my rice in another bowl (about 3 yrs ago), the non-stick coating is still intact. And I'm not convinced by those who declare that the non-stick coating is so terribly bad for you (unless you decide to eat the pot itself, I guess).

eat the pot :rotflmao:

so far the rice cooker pot with coating haven't been giving me any problem of peeling or scratches though I m using it to wash the rice in it. It is the non stick pan (OT) though nowadays the coating is more durable I would like to think. It wont peel (about a year usage) but somehow when you look at it near and carefully .. could feel some wear & tear..I hope I could get another free wok during cny promo though haha..

What is the brand of your rice cooker?

I am using Zojirushi that comes with many functions which I don't use at all. It cost about $500+ which I thought was highly overpriced.

The coating of the rice pot is peeling off and I want to either dump or replace just the pot.
I thought my Fuzzy Logic (Made in Japan) at $200+ was expensive but yours is $500! Why are you people's pots peeling? Did you use brute force or a heavy-duty scrub sponge or a metal spatula to scrape the pot? None of my previous pots ever peeled, and I used them to cook chicken rice, yam rice, claypot rice, sushi, basmati, brown, semi-brown, mixed...

$500+ model should be made in Japan, not OEM in SEA. Maybe you can contact them to ask if they have the replacement parts?

Actually my $50+ traditional rice cooker can alsocook chicken rice, nasi lemak, yam rice, pumpkin rice, brown rice etc lah. Cheap is because no frills.

Starlight,
You can call 6299 1116 to check for Zojirushi spare parts replacement.

Yes, just that it's more cumbersome like I had to watch the fire and also monitor it...
rice cooker = convenience of leaving it to cook while I do other things

You can also use those mini thermal pot (insulated pot) to cook rice. But somehow the texture and taste not the same

Some friends, who only need small amount of rice, cook it in microwave in glass bowl.

Will infused rice with chicken meat and lup cheong stick to the bottom of the inner pot? Maybe need to coat with some cooking oil or add more water. My previous basic pots I bought overseas were also in that price range and all could cook those mixed rice and congee too, except sushi /Korean rice which took longer.

I think the stuck rice will come off easily when it is sufficiently cooled...but that means wastage if you only eat warm rice.

Yes, I also have a clay pot and will use it if I want the aromatic crackling 锅巴 which the smart rice cooker cannot yield.

But like Nebbermind shared, you need to stay by the stove to watch over the fire.

OT: I've tried the Donki instant sushi rice and Korean brand instant rice. Just need to microwave it...but not sure if long term consumption will cause cancer or not.
