Dining in a quiet environment

Has anyone noticed that restaurants are getting noisier and noisier? I'm not talking about cafes or casual restaurants but proper restaurants, even higher-end French and Italian establishments. It used to be that the clinking of cutlery and quiet conversation was the norm in fine dining establishments but now conservations are much louder. I don't even need to perk my ears to listen in on what the party two tables away is saying. I miss the good old days.

Yes, i totally agree. And it seems to be the in thing to laugh out loud (too many lol). The impression these people give me is like "I'm in, I'm hip. I'm in control. Look at me". Even on weekdays tea affairs, there bound to be 1 or 2 groups of exraordinary loud tables.

Yes I feel the same too... No such thing as fine dining except at home...
Is attention the goal?

I agree with you there. Guess I'm not very hip or in control. :imcool:

Now if I could cook that well it might be. But I like to be pampered and have waiters attending to me.

the wine company at evans road is not bad. a western restaurant, quite out of the place, but still reminds me very much of a quiet cutlery clinking environment. i guess it depends on the company you're having on the same evening.
